♥ MUSIC by YouTube’s Free Audio Library: "Venice Beach" - Topher Mohr & Alex Elena

Hi, I'm Christy welcome back to 52 weeks of beauty. Today'S video is going to be about the fold-over technique for tape and hair extensions aka, the Meredith technique. So I talked about this briefly in a past video and I just wanted to kind of revisit it and do a little demonstration of it, because I have been totally loving it and right now I actually prefer this method, as opposed to the very first video I Ever did for tape and hair extensions earlier this year and the reason I like this one more is because you know how, in that video, I say: put tape on one side: flip the weft over put tape on that side. Flatiron peel off both sides put in your hair okay, so this one is basically, you just take one strip of tape as opposed to two and you put it halfway up. You know the weft halfway into the tape and then take the other piece of the tape and just fold it over the top of the weft and you flatiron, and then you peel it off. So, just to give you an example when I first did my video, the what I meant to do was something like this. This is the half inch size um, it's not exactly even, but this is just a really quick. I think I was like doing some kind of trial with this but um, so it is just a half inch size on both sides. You know I cut it flat ironed it and now I would peel it off and just put it in, but that's a lot of adhesive right there. You know so here is one where I used 3/8 of an inch which who knows my favorite tape size and this is hand tied hair. This is machine web, so a little different, but just even idea on the actual tape part. So I just took the piece of tape and I just folded it over the top. So what is so awesome about this is here: there's no tape. So when it's in your hat, this part of the weft isn't really being adhered to. You know the top of your scalp line, your hair line. You know anything like that. This, actually is so it's more support. Your hair has. How do I say this um? Not only are the extensions more supported by having this top piece of adhesive holding them together and holding both of it. You know the together, but it's also more support in your hair as well. Your morning era is more to hold on to so it doesn't just have the two sides. It also has the top part and you're using way less adhesive. So it's actually not that big of a deal that you are adding a little more adhesive in a sense to a part of your hair, because it's so tiny. So anyway, I've been loving that I wanted to kind of talk about what wax to use for what tapes and that sort of thing. If you want to try the fold-over technique, if you've already tried taping your extensions and you're wearing them all the time, and you are having a great time with them, you are going to go crazy when you try the fold-over technique, I'm serious like it is amazing And it saves a lot of money like a lot so because you're using half as much tape - and you know, tape - isn't super expensive, but if you're going through them a lot - and you know changing them out every four to six weeks or anything like that, um, You know can just add up okay, so I'm going to go ahead and show you all the tapes I'm going to grab my camera just kind of scan over all of them really fast. So I can show you what tapes I would recommend in the width sizes for certain wefts and all that and I'll be right back in a second okay. So I kind of just laid everything out really fast: we'll try to go through them quickly, but this is a smaller sized tape available. This is the quarter inch. There'S two rolls. I talk about this all the time. Of course, my camera horrible at zooming, but just imagine there are two rolls next to each other. It'S really really tiny and and then these are the tabs, and these are already pre-cut and they're in the quarter. Inch width size as well and again, I'm sure you can't even see any definition in there, but they are little tab pieces. Okay, this is a new size. I just recently discovered it's the 1/3 inch, so there are three rolls and it's a slightly slightly wider than the quarter inch, and so now it's nine yards worth instead of six, and I have not tried this size yet, but I was like huh. You know this one's my favorite. This is the three-eighths of an inch and I love it because it's a little bit wider than the quarter inch. But when I held this one up, I was like it's a little bit tinier than this one. So I actually think this one's awesome, okay, so for the purpose of the fold-over technique, I wouldn't recommend these, so this is the one that I would say would be the smallest that you could try using. This is the three. This is the one I was holding up in the video just a few seconds ago, so this is the width that I use. I actually put two tiny, you know hand tied webs one here and one right above it and then I folded it in half over it. So this would be the smaller size, I'd recommend for the fold-over technique, and then we have the half inch size, which is a real popular size. So this one's, like, I said it's a safe size to use. So this is the size I used back in the very beginning when I did my first tape in video, and I just talked about a few seconds ago. Okay, so this size comes in three yards, it also comes in twelve yards. It also comes in. Oh, my goodness, 36 yards and three inch pieces that are three inches long and the half inch wide. So if you just wanted it already pre-cut for you, this size is amazing for machine West. It could be double wefted, it can be single wefted. I don't know that you would want to take the weft and layer them on this type on this width size, but this is good if the machine weft is already sewn together double wefted. I think this one would be perfect for the fold-over technique for that kind of hair, or you could do maybe like three hand tied West on top of each other. With this one. Okay, then we have the three-quarter inch size, which is a great size. So just to give you a comparison, this is the half three-quarter. It'S not, you know quite double, but it's like this and a half uh-huh is the three-quarter, and I told you I'm not good. At math, so, okay anyway, this size comes in the three yards, the twelve yards and also comes in the strips as well, and this one would be great for you know if you already have machine double wefted extensions and you want to you know, put maybe one Row here and then one row here, I'd say like maybe two double wefted weft and then fold this over and I'm really sorry. This is blurry and shaky and one day I'm going to get in the camera. I know I keep saying that, but I really am. Okay, so this is the one inch size and again just to give you another comparison. This is so crazy to do with one hand, but okay, so there's the three-quarter. This is the one inch and one inch would be great for maybe more support for really heavy double wefted. You know higher graham sets. I know that I've had my manufacturer custom. Make 300 gram sets for me before and it's not like they're quadruple, wafted they're, really just double wefted, but it's a lot heavier hair. So if you're going to use, you know a really heavy, Graham sets or maybe gosh, how many wefts could you put on here? One two three four, maybe I don't know, maybe if you did even if you mix TM tattoo machine wept, but you can do a lot with this you're, not experiment and the heavier your hair or the more wax you're going to be wanting to use this one Or this one, the one inch or the one and a half, this one comes in twelve thirty six pieces, and this is the one and a half inch. So this is really really wide, and this one is awesome because give you an idea, I mean you could really really load up some left's here and then fold this over. I mean this is for crazy bulk. Like I said, I don't know that you're really gon na need this one, but if you really wanted to go all out, I mean it's here for you, so okay and I'm sure a lot of these other ones that I don't have. These big rolls do come in the you know, bigger rolls too. If you want to save money - and you were, you know, really fond of one particular size but okay, so that's kind of the quick run-through on the tapes and what takes I'd recommend for the fold-over technique. And now I'm going to go ahead and show you how I do it okay, so to do this basically you're just going to pick up your weft, I'm using hand-tied, but you know if you want to use machine weft to and I'm just gon na kind of Start it like this so right there at the end. Could you guys see that and we do it again alright, so I just put it right there and then just kind of blow really slow. So you can get like a good placement and you want to put it up just a little matte on the very very bottom, because you want a little adhesive to hold the bottom and the right below the weft and right above the weft too. So there's that one and I'm going to cut it and then I'm just going to go ahead and take my other left and I am going to be really careful not to touch the tape. But I'm going to put it right above that one okay and then I'm going to fold over. So you just start at the front of there and just try to make sure it's, even when you're folding on both sides. And this is and see how there's a little bit of space in between the wefts right now like a little teepee, oh yeah, and so I'm going to go ahead and use a flat iron and that will help seal it and make it more flat in together. So let's go flat: iron, okay, so for the flat iron I'm just doing. What I typically do is just a clamp clamp and this one I'm actually going to flip over and do the same thing my flat iron Tainted to about 400 degrees. I think 400 or 450 is a great amount, but I want to do both sides, because it's so tiny and so fragile. You really do want it to seal it and now the little teepee is gone. Oh no teepee, but it's nice and flat, and I love that so I let it cool down and then I'll show you how I remove the tape too. Okay, so I want to show you after you know you clamped it with the flat iron. It is a little bit trickier to peel this off, so I just start one side, you know, make sure you're separating the tape from the backing and then just lift it up. You know like that so once you have it on there, so if you can kind of see what I'm doing and then just kind of peel back - and I sometimes just go really quickly because I feel like if I don't it'll get caught up so then you Can see how the tape is on the very top of the web too, and it's nice and secure, and I love this because what I was doing before when I did hand tied is you know, I put the tape and then I put a weft and then I put tape and then I peeled the tape off and add another weft, and then I put another piece of tape, so I had them. You know this way as opposed to layered with a fold-over thing, so it's one more tape and two with hand tied. It'S so delicate, it was taking me forever and also I come on. Tapings are so quick and I don't mean forever like really forever, but you know maybe a few more minutes, but I was just so impatient. I was like there's got to be, you know, I've got to be able to do something better and then, when Meredith recommended the fold-over technique, I was like what there's the answer to all my problems, so um thanks again Meredith and anyway, if you guys try this Fold-Over technique or the Meredith method on, please let me know what you think and I'm just so curious. I actually think it's gon na hold a little bit better. It'S gon na, be, you know, a little bit more secure and what am I going to do with this hold on? So if you do try the fold-over technique, let me know what you think and I think it's my new way like my new go-to way of doing tape in hair extensions, and I love it so much. I wanted to share with you guys. So let me know if you do: try it: what size geez, what size you know, how many West did you put on your tape size? You know leave in the comment below let other girls know, and maybe you can help them out if they have similar hair types to you or similar extension sets to you - and I hope you guys having a great week and I'll see you

QueenBeeChas: I am Black and I have used your method with track brazilian hair. I love it! It blends well and can handle the louisiana heat and humidity. I have been getting sew ins for years and this is much more cost effective. The tape is about $3 at my BSS store. I put it in myself and removal was the easiest ever after 6 weeks using walker tape removal. I lost no hair and no breakage. Thank you! !

Lilia Sulpacio: Great method. I swipe my real hair with an alcohol pad, right where the extension will be placed, dry it with cool blow dryer and then apply my tape extension. Just assures the oils are gone and increase the hold time on my hair. For removal I use a spay bottle with alcohol 71% or higher from sallys or walmart and they slide right off with no gooey residue and then a good washing and deep conditioning and ready for a new install.

Mer569: Thanks for naming this process after me, LOL!!! I've got my 15 minutes of fame now! :) I am so glad I told you about this! :)

kittenb69: so I watched all your videos...and tonight I finally got the nerve to try. I purchased the products you suggested. It took me about 3 hours because I needed to figure out lengths etc. They look awesome!! It feels a little different because of the weight but within a couple hours it wasn't noticeable. The hair feels really great and you cannot seem them!Thank you for the awesome tutorials!

Heather Brown: I love your videos! I was hoping that you could do an installation video for the fold-over method! I am growing out a pixie cut and I love the tape-ins because they have been a life saver, for that awkward growing out phase. However, it can still be pricey even on short hair. I know that I can do them myself, but the design of the fold over theoretically would work better. I would love to see how you install with the fold-over please!! Thank you for your great tips and awesome channel!!

victoria schwambach: Ive been using this technique since I started doing the tape in extensions! Its awesome. I had to do this because I ordered tape that was very wide. Love it!

Ashley Bilke: I love the fold over technique! Also I wanted to randomly recommend a really good, conditioning thermal spray, thermal image by Wella for our extensions. I have been trying EVERYTHING and no matter what I used, leave conditioners, thermal sprays, deep conditioning treatments, ect, my extensions were ALWAYS dry and tangling, it really peeved me! Until I tried Wella thermal image. oh my gosh. Its amazing. Try it and let me know what you think!

Lori Duncan: Wow Christy! So super detailed and informative! This will be so much easier for me to fold over my 3/4" that I bought by mistake. I tried cutting it in half, lengthwise, which works but SO sticky and difficult to cut it straight. Yet I didn't want to toss it. As always, another amazing tutorial :-)

Monet Lee: Seriously love your videos they are so helpful. I've tried ALL kinds of extensions and came across your video... went to the beauty supply the same day and I have never been happier! Love my tape-ins and your videos helped so much! Keep up the good work!!

ajvaldo405: I love your videos,I just put in my tape in extensions, I love them already. Thank you for the vids

Christy Allysen: Pumpkin spice coffee sounds fabulous!! And - haha - I always think about that tee pee thing when I do mine now! ;) That hand tied was 18/613. I personally use ash/bleach for my color though. That was just extra hair I had. I prefer both really. Hand tied is amazing...it is like a breath of fresh hair - I mean air. :) :) :) hahaha - it is just so light and airy. But sometimes I want machine wefts too. Hard to pick! I got your email and will get back to you real soon - promise!

LillyLake: I’m doing this method with my foxylocks extensions . I’m going to cut the plastic but to make it smaller as well . So glad I see this, thankyou!!

MJ Smith: I love your tape in videos! I just got Babe tape ins and my stylist did them but I spent over 700.00 and I've worn hair extensions for years but never spent this much! I usually wore Sally's clip ins and they're 100% human remy hair too, but with your method I believe I can do these myself. Thank you so much. I've only had these in for 3 weeks and so far 3 have fallen out which after paying that much, I am not happy with this at all. And I have babied this hair and done everything my stylist has told me to. Hopefully he will replace these that have fallen out and there are several more that are hanging sideways. Also, haha, you sound exactly like me, "And when I say forever, I mean a few more minutes!" Thank again and I'll update you on how my first DIY tape ins go!! ❤️

Jeni Perillo-Kerr Natural Vanity: Love ALLLLL of your Tape-in Videos! Anything I Could Ever Ask, You Demonstrate...Keep Up the Great Work!!!

Medusa Sweet: Omg you look super gorgeous today! I love your hair, top, nails, and makeup! Really cute!(: have a nice day.(:

Christy Allysen: Hi Meredith!!! Yay - isn't it fun?! I am SO THANKFUL you told me (us) about it!! I LOVE YOUR WAY SOOOO MUCH!!! <3 :)

Baff Mac: Will be doing this soon as my tape arrive ! Thank you !

Carole Kinsey: I have had my extensions in for 2 weeks and the weft is separating from the tape. I was my hair every 3 days and am very careful with pulling. What can I do to keep the separation from happening?

Christy Allysen: Thank you TONSSSS!!! And - yay - so happy you can use it this way! I am in love with the fold-over! ;)!

Christy Allysen: Perfect - thank you! Will add it to my Amazon cart now :)

Elvira Alcantar: Just wanted to say thank you for the videos I been using clip ins end they were starting to bee a pain because of the time it takes to put them in (mom of two) end thanks to your videos I learned about the tape method end how to do them my self thank you again :)

Adele Cutler: Hi. I have trialled the foldover technique using 3/4 inch walker tape. Have to say love love love this technique and it feels like have less adhesive in my hair and feels much flatter. Thank you for sharing

Hannah Reyes: Omgeee I'm so glad I found your videos ! Im going to order tape In hair extensions this week but I'm getting them in pre cut pieces . I was doing 40pc of 18" 100g and 20pc of 16" 85 or 100g (I have thick short hair) what is the best tape that will hold mine ? And my hair is pretty silk will that be a problem ? Thank you !=)

SouthernGirlBeauty: Hi, so I've seen every one of your tape in hair extension videos, and I have to say they are amazing. You have given me so much more information than just researching on the web has. I want to use clip in extensions and remove the clips and apply the tape to them, but I am nervous that after a few washes the extensions will get SO dry and brittle. That has happened to me before and its quite frustrating. Do you have any products you could recommend that keep your extensions soft and healthy?

Zuseth Ruiz: Best video ive seen! Very explanatory and helpful! Thank you love it!

letishia Jackson: new to the game of tapeing also...I 'm a black chick ...love your method..well explained and direct..thanks for sharing

Christy Allysen: Hi! Yes - as close to/on scalp as possible. And I love this way bc it prevents your weft from showing when the wind blows. Also - there is no tangling or matting either...as son have this problem with the sandwich method.

BrutalBarbie: Hey first off let me say I love how helpful your videos are! Though I do have a couple questions I can't find the answers to that I'm hoping you can help me with. 1. How long does my hair need to be? I am working on growing out a angled bob it's plenty long in the front but not more than roughly 2 inches in the back right now. 2. How do I match my hair up to the extensions? Could I take them in to my hair dresser and have them color mine to match the extension? What's your personal preference on that? 3. If you cut your extensions and reuse them do you have a method of remembering where they came from on your head when you re install them? LOL Oh, and last but not least (4.) what kind of hair brush do you use on them?  If you could help me out I would greatly appreciate it and I can't wait to purchase and try some of your hair!

Christy Allysen: Hiiiiii!! This is a great question! I ALWAYS cut my hand tied wefts. A few little pieces from the side will come off of weft - like a few strands. And then it is all good. Just dont keep cutting it. Let that little 1/8" be free of hair. You could always add a little bit of Walker Ultra Hold Glue (or any waterproof glue) to the weft if you wanted to make sure no more hair comes off...but I have NEVER had an issue. xoxo!

Hannah Reyes: I emailed you all my questions cause Im thinking about getting hand tied wefts and do it how you do thank you for getting back to me !:)

Christy Allysen: Yes - you can do them in advance. I would just re-heat them (very quickly tho this time - with just a splash of heat) again when you are ready to install! :)

Leanne Olsen: You mention that the fold over technique is awesome and solves a lot of problems. Will you please explain what problems are solved? Thank you for you time and sharing your knowledge :)

Margaret Todd: Great technique I will now try this!!!!

Christy Allysen: Hi!! Depends on if these pieces are hand tied or wefted? If they are double wefted - I would suggest the 1/2" for the fold over technique. Or you could use 3/8" for each side and do the original method I did in week 7. :)

ep: Hi blessing love this method. Can u show us how to install it using this method to the hair?

Shannon Givens: Attempting my first tape ins tonight :)

Kel Milacek: Christy I couldn't stop laughing when you said look little tee pee and no more tee pee (spelling error I think) What color was the hand tied you used? Do you prefer double wefted or hand tied for thin hair? Fall is definitely here. I'm actually sitting her having a pumpkin spice coffee yummy. Talk soon xoxo

Matty Lane: hey love your vids! but would be supper cool if you could do a vid on someone with really short hair like a pixie cut with a long bang or even for ppl with a undercut with the tape ins. taaaa xxx

Christy Allysen: YAY! So happy to hear that!!! I don't think I could ever go back to the other way now!

Christy Allysen: This weeks video is gonna be all about how tired I am!! haha that wouldn't be very interesting if I just fell asleep on camera. ;) No really - it will be up prob Fri or Sat and will most likely be about how to start a hair extension company!

Katarina Glavas: Ive been doing your tape ins for a few months now and i LOVE EM! I just can't seem to have them last more than 2 - 2.5 weeks...what am i doing wrong? I followed your interactions perfectly. ( I'm doing the old technique with 3/8 walker tape on either side)....help! lol

Margaret Todd: Will be trying this! Great video

fairybutterfly1313: I learn something new with every video!

Lori Duncan: Question. How long in advance can you prepare the tape on your extensions? Ie., could I pretape my wefts a few month before using them? That way my second set is all ready to apply after removing the other set. Would I need to reheat with flat iron?

Jackie Campbell: Can you do a tutorial of exactly how you put these in =) thanks!!

Leanne Olsen: BTW I use a simple and cheap method for removal; Baby oil!! Extensions made with the amazing Walkers brand tape and Liquid Gold adhesive can from my experience take a lot of different treatments without any problems at all. I have bathed in swimming pool washed and dried and even colored my hair with extensions and they stay nicely put for 5-6 weeks.

Lori Duncan: Great! I will get mine ready to go and put them in after we get back from the beach. We

Christy Allysen: Also don't use acetone. And make sure u are using a mixture of shampoo, baking soda and apple cider vinegar. These three are like a magic potion together.

Christy Allysen: Thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!! That was SO sweet!! <3

Adele Cutler: Hi Christy I have done 2 applications now of your earlier technique using the 1/2 inch tape either side and have been pleased woth the result. has lasted weeks and weeks between installations. I want to try this folder technique. My question is, could I use the 1/2 inch tape instead of the 3/8 inch tape you suggest? Have you used 1/2 inch foldover technoque and if you have how did you find it? Thank you x

Christy Allysen: Fully dry your hair with a blow drier even if it feels sticky. Then re-wash your hair like I do in my shower video. Then dry hair again. Should feel much better. You may have to do this 3-4 times. Don't use too much baking soda. Just about 2tablespoons worth each time. Email me and I will help more...

Cathy Glascock: Love your videos! What hair do you use (machine wefted) and where do you get it?

Lindsay Eitelman: i love it, going home today to try the fold over technique

Christy Allysen: Hi Ashley! I have never tried that - I just looked it up. You mean the Heat Protectant Spray? Just wanna make sure I try the right thing! :)

Rebecca Hetes: I tried the tape in extensions with the walker double sided no shine tape. I had them in about 8.5 weeks and i just took them out. I used the walker weft release and they came out super easily but I have tons of left over glue residue. I cannot get it out. Any recommendations? I've tried baking soda, acetone, etc. I need help!!

Sey Hag: hello girl! this video is soooooo informative..... well all of ur videos are!!!! lolzzzz anyways, i hav a question, i heard some comments also about hair wefts including hand tied and machine tied wefts that, if u cut it they will shed or loosen up especially on the part where u cut the weft..... base on ur experience, can u tell me how true this is? thanks in advance gorgeous!!!!! mwahhhhzzzz

Kya B: wait- so how do you apply the fold oer technique to your head??? thats th part i was waiting for your whole video. the idea sounds awesome- but.......... how to apply correctly??

Alejandra LeAnne Gonzelas: i Used 2 manchine sew wefts with .5 inch tape and i only got maybe three weeks before they started to slide out however it was the first time doing the tape in extentions so the next time did the same thing but went much faster and lasted about 5 to 5.5 weeks

Geminelle Ovalles: Hello!!! Thank u so much for all your extremely helpful videos!!! Hair extension is new to me. I just want to ask, would u advise wavy hair extensions? I have straight hair but i really want big curly hair. Im afraid it wont work out or should i go for straight hair and just curl them?! Help! Thanks

Christy Allysen: You may need a few more small 1" pieces (hand tied maybe?) below that other weft...and kind of stagger them...like laying bricks. ;)

Christy Allysen: You may have to either glue or sew the wefts together first...or use sep tape pieces for sep wefts...

Christy Allysen: You are SO welcome and I am soooooo happy you love them!! :)

Stacy Valdez: Hello! I wanted to ask where you purchase your tape? :) I love your videos!

Lazar Dimitrov: Hi,I would like to ask you do you know if the adhesive tapes that Walker company sells contain latex or anything that might cause allergic reactions, because I read disturbingly many comments about rashes and red areas, because of adhesive hair tape-(Walker no shine, ultra hold) and I am verry concerned. P.S I am Maria-this is my boyfriend's profile :D And you were the reason I switched from clip ins to tape in and I love it,but I am verry scared, reading about this toxic ingredients.

I'm so confused.please help x

Issa T: I purchased walker ultra hold hair system tape .. will this still work ??

Chloe Luckin: How do you tend to hide the hair on the underneath that's a bit short that's below the first weft. They show in my hair when I wear hair extensions and you can tell where my hair ends :(
