Hey guys freezing cold winters can be very harsh on our hair, leaving it dry, frizzy and full of static, just like extreme heat. Extreme cold can have a negative effect on our hair. So in today's video I'm going to share all my tips on how I keep my hair, healthy and hydrated during the colder months. I like to think of the winter time as a time that I can really focus on caring for my hair and then in the summertime. I can just let my hair down, so my biggest tip for protecting your hair during the winter months is preventing it from being exposed to the elements in the first place. When I go outside, I wear my hair in a protective hairstyle like a braid, and then I just tuck it into my coat or under a scarf. So it's not exposed to the cold air and I usually wear a hat in the winter to protect my hair and keep me warm. However, a lot of materials that hats are made out of like wool and acrylic, can rub on your hair and make it look really frizzy. So I always put a silk or satin cap on before my hat, so my hair is against a smooth material, and this is how I've been wearing my hat a lot during the winter. I just put my hair in a low, loose bun and secure it with a claw clip, and then I put on my silk cap I'll, actually link the cap I use down below because it's the best one I found, because it actually stays on my head and Then I put my hat over top of that to keep the heat in you'll probably need a big hat like mine to hold all your hair in or you can just leave the bottom of your hair down and, as you can see, my hair is totally protected. It'S like a little cocoon for my hair, so that's just something: I've been doing to protect my hair this winter and I think it looks kind of cute and my hair feels really nice when I take it out so yeah I sleep on a silk pillow at Night and use the silk cap under my hats and my hair loves it in the winter. It feels so great to take a steamy hot shower. However, hot water temperatures can set the moisture out of your hair and make it more vulnerable to breakage. For me, this is the most difficult tip because I love taking hot showers, especially on a cold winter's day. So when I'm taking a shower in the winter time, I usually start off with it a bit hot, just to kind of warm up. But then, when I go to wash and condition my hair, I just turned the water down to warm and if you dare you can do a cool rinse after and that actually just makes your hair look more shiny. And while we're on this subject of hair washing, I like to try and extend my hair washings in the winter, your hairs, natural oils help condition your hair. So you don't want to just strip that away by shampooing it all the time plus the winter time. Is the best time to do this because you can just wear a cute hat to cover up a bad hair day and I have a whole video on my tips for extending hair washings. So I'll leave that down below in the description, because there's some great tips in there and of course you want to use a gentle, natural, shampoo and conditioner. So I always use my favorite kolya. I like to use their hydrating line in the winter time and, if you've washed your hair and have wet hair and need to go out somewhere. I would try to avoid going outside altogether until it's dry, because wet hair can expand and freeze causing a lot of breakage. Personally, although I don't like to use heat on my hair, I feel like it's better to gently blow-dry your hair on low to medium heat. Rather than going out with wet hair - and I know it's a luxury - but I do love my Dyson blow-dryer - it doesn't overheat. So it's supposed to be less damaging. I only blow-dry my hair every once in a while. I think I've done it two or three times this winter. However, that being said, I highly recommend avoiding the use of heat tools like straighteners and curlers as much as you can throughout the entire year, because that's gon na damage your hair. It'S also really important to condition your hair in the winter time, so I love using lots of nourishing oils. In my hair, I like to leave a little bit of oil in my ends at all times, because my ends get a bit dry. My blue beautifly, a mahaki scalp oil serum, is a staple for me and I love making do-it-yourself deep conditioning masks with things like avocados and honey. Just give your hair some extra love and care in the winter time, and during the colder months we more than likely have the heat cranked up as well. So if your hair and skin are feeling the drying effects of indoor heating, it might be worth it to invest in a humidifier, a humidifier will add moisture to the air which will help prevent dry, hair and skin. I absolutely love my humidifier. I love this one in particular because he can put essential oils in it as well, and I also have this humidity tester, so I can gauge how much humidity I need in the air. Hair also gets staticky during the cold winter months when it's dry. So I suggest switching out your plastic combs and brushes for wooden combs and brushes, because plastic can cause static, and I don't know about you, but having staticky hair drives me nuts, it just makes me feel so gross. So those are my cold-weather haircare tips feel free to follow me on Instagram, for lots of hair photos and more I'll link that down below in the description box. I hope you guys enjoyed this video and found the tips useful. I love you guys so much stay. Warm and I'll see you in my next video bye,

Cata Undurraga: I love the stuff you recommend!! The problem is it takes me months to save up for it! Hahaha from the time I first heard u recommend a tek brush to the time I finally got one it was over 2 years! Totally Worth it tho

Imagine Freedom: Your tips helped me so much, I watched your past videos where you said many useful tips! The hardest ones have been to wash my hair less times in a week and also wash it with colder water :-D But somehow I manage..

Roopa Balavenu: Your videos are soo calming, soft words and the background music is very calming. All my worries are gone just after watching your videos. I just love your videos you deserve more likes.

Nancy Davis: Beware of that blue beautifly scalp oil. I used it for a while and it caused extreme dryness on my ends, noticeable breakage and brittle split ends. The company told me it was probably due to the essential oils. Just be very careful with this product. It caused significant damage to my hair.

GaiSensei Neemo: Wow I was watching this thinking that it was an older video. Only 11 hours ago ! Haha, I love your videos so much . Watching this before bed and i might finally buy a tek wooden brush ! I have long thick hair and haven't been giving it as much love as I should have been :( the long paddle brush with long pins look so luxurious! I'm broke but i can't resist but to buy my friend a Tek b. for her birthday as well! We are both VERY passionate about fluffy, long , healthy hair ! Thank you so much for your relaxing videos! ⭐⭐ ❤

Jaimary Jaimes: Hello Sarah! I am loving this video. I have been doing all those tips before. They are great! If it is not too much to ask, where did you buy that winter jacket? I saw it before in one of your videos and I really love it, it is beautiful.

İlayda Bilicitürk: I found a wooden brush like yours and I am so happy because I have long hair like yours

Cece Green: Bless you!!! I have long hair and I’m 27yrs old. I’m now taking care of my hair. Thank you for sharing ❤

Ben: As a guy my hair used to be very curly and frizzy I haven't shampooed in 6 months only use water from a water purify. I don't brush my hair wet and i use a TEK brush daily my hair is much more smooth and less frizzy almost basically straight with a slight wave

Zaid Asfar: Hi Sarah I really love your videos it’s really interesting can you do you night skin routine thanks

Nttd Mrtn: It's summer now here in nz but I will definitely use some of theses tips in winter

Sakura Sky: I had to get rid of my straighteners to stop all temptation of using them! As for hair dryer I haven’t used it in a few years now! I wanted to get rid of that too! But kept it for emergencies like drying something - a spillage, a piece of clothing, instead of for hair!

Stephanie Castro: I love your 50s winter coat dress, it is so classy and beautiful, your hair is so beautiful, I am still on my hair growth journey❤

Chrissy Mullins: Stunning quality content. Wow♡

It's A Beautiful Life: Hi Sarah! Awesome video! I wanted to know if I could leave a little of the blue butterfly oil in my hair. Thanks!

sjtheWolf Boss: In Florida, it's the opposite. Never keep your hair down in the summer heat in Florida, that's a good way to get your hair fried.. The winter time is like a colder version of spring. That's the best time to let your hair lose.

you know with Marty Kauffman: Thanks for the cold-weather tips I subscribed so I can stay up-to-date

M2Kay: What sucks is that i love my hair out in the winter because its so wavy that the style stays longer than in summer when humidity ruins every look.

Amber Gets: Could you possibly do a video on how to look after your hair in very hot conditions? I live in South Africa and I’m always swimming in pools and the sea. Plus it’s very hot at the moment cause it’s February. Thank you! Love your videos!

Aril: I only watch her videos cuz her hair gives me satisfaction and make me happy lol

Faded Owl: Hi Sarah! Love your videos. Calia, I went to the site to repurchase. My question is, if you can help. See I dont get the difference between the hydrating and moisturizing line. My hair stays dry is like when I went all natural my scalp just completely stop producing oils or something. 5-7 days I wash by the way. I have every product you've ever posted. Lol been following for quit some time now.

Елиа Тилева: imagine going to school in winter day and as you go into the classroom and get off your coat and hat, there is your silk cap visible to everyone in the room and their faces are like whaat

jewelleryhannah: Legit tho, despite the horribly damp UK climate, the tip about washing your hair once a week and wearing hats is everything - I have stupidly fine, yet waist-long, hair, and although it’s nothing like as even and lovely as your hair, the minimal washing plus hat wearing and deep conditioning has made a massive difference!

Shahile Akter: Finally you are here. Keep uploading often....❤️❤️❤️ Your hair and personality

Scarlett Burt: I love her voice! It is so relaxing

TheEC35: Hi, @holistichabits, love your videos, do you use leave in conditioner or something that helps with frizz, I live in fl and this is something I need help with. Thank you.
