Hey guys welcome back to another video, so today i'm gon na be giving you some tips on how to care for your hair during the winter. Keep it moisturized and everything like that, so it doesn't dry out and break um. So if it's something that you're interested in hearing then make sure you keep watching, but firstly, if you're new to my channel thanks so much for stopping by my name, is julie and on my channel you'll find lots of haircare tips, tutorials hairstyles, all that type of Stuff, so if you like, what you see then make sure you subscribe around this time of year is when people kind of ask me, you know what is your like routine like during the winter? Do you kind of change up, according to you know different seasons and stuff like that um, and so i thought to myself. You know what let me sit down and kind of share with you, some of the things that i do and some things that will be useful right now, where i am. I live in the uk in essex, which isn't too far from london, um and the weather is cold right now, literally it kind of switched overnight. It'S kind of been like fairly mild up until a couple of days ago, but it is so so cold now and obviously, during the winter time, when it's very cold um, you know the the kind of the cold air kind of draws moisture out of the hair. It kind of makes it very dry, brittle um, you know and just can cause breakage. So you know you need to kind of find ways to make sure you're kind of injecting as much moisture into your hair as possible, so it doesn't break so um yeah. There'S going to be um, five tips that i'll be giving you so make sure that you pay attention and make sure you try this tip okay. So the first thing you want to do is make sure that when you are washing your hair, that you are using um kind of moisturizing shampoos, co-washes or sulfate free shampoos, all right, because when you're using sulfates all the time, it can strip the hair. It'S natural oils and moisture and when you're kind of going through the washing process, you don't want to come out at the end of it with your hair feeling dry. And so you know, i'm not saying don't use sulfates, because you know you do need it from time to time to help remove. You know a lot of the product build up, because sulfates contain certain um surfactants that are designed to kind of lift dirt, and so you can use it. But if you are someone that is using it on a regular basis and you're noticing that your hair is very dry, sometimes then definitely cut back on that maybe use it um, i don't know maybe say once or twice a month and then you can kind of Alternate with sulfate-free shampoos as well um, but i'll definitely say that you know if you can just kind of cut that out a little bit unless you've got lots of build up on your hair, then of course you know use it if need be, but, as i Said co-washes from time to time, not all the time, moisturizing shampoos and sulfate free shampoos. That'S going to help to kind of keep the moisture in your hair. So it's not going to be dry once you've kind of gone through the washing process. Okay, so the next thing you want to do is make sure you are incorporating regular moisturizing, deep conditioning treatments - okay, so i've mentioned this before in another video, but our hair needs a balance of both protein and moisture. Okay, to help balance the elasticity within our hair strands that prevents our hair from breaking so um. You know, obviously you can carry out your protein and conditioning treatments, which is what we need, but you also need some moisturizing ones as well. The moisturizing ones are kind of gon na inject moisture into your hair and so obviously, once you've gone through the whole washing process. Your hair is gon na feel kind of moisturized soft. You know at the end of it, so you can even try using light protein treatments as well, which contains both protein and moisture. That'S what i use i've kind of always used light protein, deep conditioning treatments or deep conditioners, should i say um and that's worked really. Well for me, so you know you can give it a try, but it's a case of finding the right lighting light protein treatment that your hair kind of responds well to um. So, as i said, just kind of increase your moisture levels by carrying those out and you can do protein treatments as well. Maybe you can do those once a month. It really depends on your hair, you know and whether your hair needs it. You kind of need to fill your hair and you know see what it needs. If it feels really dry, then you want to carry out more moisturizing treatments. If it feels um overly moisturized, then you want to carry out protein. But if you can get that balance and as i said, i like protein and deep conditioning treatment is great but, as i said, if you want to inject more moisture back into your hair, then definitely try and incorporate more moisturizing and deep conditioning treatments. Okay, so the next thing you want to do is increase how often you moisturize your hair. So how often do you moisturize your hair? Are you moisturizing it like um once a day? Is it two to three times a week? You know it's kind of um, knowing your hair, you know feeling your hair. How does it feel because our hair kind of speaks to us? You know and it's a matter of kind of being tuned in to what it needs. So with me, for example, you know um, i moisturize my hair. Whenever you know i feel like it needs it and depending on which product i use as well, will determine how often i moisturize my hair um. So if you're moisturizing your hair, say once a day and you're feeling like you know, it feels like it's dry, then maybe um increase that to twice a day once in the morning and again at night time. Okay or maybe you need to check your products to make sure it contains the right ingredients in there, because there could be ingredients that are not moisturizing your hair, we'll get to that in the next tip. But um yeah just check your your moisturizers and, as i said, increase it if you need to it's: okay to moisturize moisturize your hair more regularly, if your hair needs it and so again just that's another way of helping to get moisture back into your hair. So another thing that you can do as well is check your ingredients at the back of the products. Okay again another one. I'Ve mentioned before in a previous video that you want to make sure that your products contain um like long chain alcohols. These alcohols are going to help to kind of keep your hair moisturized rather than you know, kind of short chain alcohols that dry out your hair and also you want to make sure that they contain certain humectants that are going to help to your hair. To retain moisture, so you know like honey and aloe vera and glycerin, which is one of my favorite humectants. But people do say, or you do hear, that glycerin is not good to use during winter because where the air is so cold outside it kind of draws. Moisture out of your hair, to be honest with you, i've never had a problem with glycerin, okay and my moisturizing products that i use contain it and, as i said, it hasn't been an issue for me. So i think it's a case of just trying things out for yourself and seeing how your hair responds um. If you have used um glycerin - and you do feel like your hair - is still dry, then make sure that you are sealing in the moisture as well with oils, because um at least that's going to lock everything in so that should obviously try and prevent that issue. From happening um, but yeah just make sure that um, you know your products are containing um. You know certain ingredients that are going to help to you, know inject moisture into your hair and keep it moisturized and last but not least, the last tip. This isn't necessarily one for helping you to keep your hair moisturized, but it's going to help protect your hair during the winter, and that is protective styling. You know it's protective styling season um and it's a time where you can just tuck your hair away and just you know not worry so much about it, but protective styles, don't necessarily mean that you forget about your hair. Okay, you still need to be injecting moisture into your hair when you've got the protective style in because, if you don't, when you take your hair out that protective style, your hair is going to feel dry and brittle and you're going to think well. Why is that? It'S been protected inside of the style, yes, it has been, but your hair still needs moisture the same way as it would if it was outside of the protective style. Okay. So when, before you install the style, make sure you moisturize not moisturize, make sure you wash deep condition, moisturize your hair, put the protective style in and then also kind of spritz your hair kind of get like um. You can get like a braid spray or a moisturizing, a spray bottle and just spray, your your hair from roots to tip and also you can use some oils as well and just kind of seal the moisture in that's what i kind of done. Um when i had box braids in and when i took my hair out of the protective style, my hair felt amazingly soft. It felt so good. I actually want to get a protective style done. Hopefully, i'd love to get one done like around christmas time and give myself a break from my hair as much as i love my hair and i love kind of rocking my natural hair, it's nice to have a break, so i don't know i want to do Something with it but um yeah, that's something else that you can do as well. Okay, guys! So those are all my tips which i hope is going to be useful to you. Let me know in the comments, if you did find this useful and if you actually follow any of these tips um, but yes guys other than that. Thank you so much for watching. Adaeze Uwasomba: Yayyy!! A protective style would definitely look great on you. I can't wait to see it!! Thanks for the video, auntie Julie. This is the time of the year I find it hardest to keep my hair moisturized. As always, your tips would help out

Melsoft: Thanks for the video Julie, and great topic!! :) I always struggle during winter as I feel my hair doesn't strive as much as it does during the summer. Actually I think the issue is more the change in temperature during fall, you never really know how to adjust. I was wondering if you could give examples of protein and moisturising treatments that you know of. What ingredients do they have in common. Like for me shea moisture deep conditioner jamaican black castor oil seems to be a bit of moisturising/protein treatment (but I don't really know)... could you maybe share the products that you use during winter vs summers? Obviously it is not to do a complete replicate but just to have an idea. Also sometimes it feels like protective styles and low manipulation styles mean different things to people. I tend to do either high puff or 2 flat twist on the sides because that is all I can do. Then in the evening I moisturise my hair and do cornrow (never managed to get them straight!). So not too sure where that would fall in, for some it would be too much manipulation for others it would be low-manipulation. Thanks

Toni Hayes: Love your tips. Will check into moisturizing more often. Right now, I do wash and go’s and don’t touch again until wash day. Unless I feel like I want to stretch the time to wash and I will do a high bun that I learned on your channel. I like the style in this video. Thanks!

Oh Carolina!: Hi, ‍♀️. I've just come across your channel for the first time. You're right about how cold it's getting here. I usually moisturize more often and then put a microwave hot headz cap on for 30 minutes afterwards. Moisture for days. Anyhow you've got a new subbie
