Hey youtube: what's going on so excited for this video, because this is actually one of my favorite topics, which is starting a hair care line. You guys know that i've been you know, doing one-on-one consultations, helping people start their hair care lines. So whether you are interested in doing this or not interested, this will still be beneficial to learn about the process, and just all that goes into creating. This will not be like a consultation where i can go in depth personally, based on what you're trying to do. Where i can actually cater the content for you, but this video will be generalized. I love to kind of get you started and thinking as to hmm, it is something i want to do. Okay, so stay tuned. Okay, so we're going to cover three topics in this video production options, product design and distribution, so starting off with production options. This is going to determine really what your next steps are going to be. But first you have to decide what your production options are. The first option is going to be create at home, and this is literally where you are creating the formula at home: you're filling your bottles, you're shipping out your um, your product, like you're, doing everything, and we know that this option works because carol's daughter started at Home the main choice started at home, and so many other brands started at home and literally started with just one product now the downside is that it can be very time consuming because you're doing everything, especially learning how to formulate the trial and error you know so That does come into play, which is something that i do cover my consultations, but initially that is something you should be thinking about. Do you have the time to be doing this option now? The good thing about creating at home is that you have total control pretty much over everything. Okay, so your second option is going to be doing private label now. This is pretty much where you're working with a company that is selling you an already established formulation. So you're literally buying bulk of like a conditioner or a shampoo and you're filling it in your bottles, you're putting your own labels on it and then you're shipping it out. So this formula is done. It'S established, it's already been tested for micro, it's been tested for stability, all you're doing is just taking it and presenting it as your own brand. Now the downside about this, of course, is that you can't customize the formulation the majority of times. You cannot because what they give you it is what it is, and then they complete 100 formulation now the good side about this is that if you don't have the time to create home, this is a great option because, like i said you already have a formula. That'S already complete i've seen a lot of brands, start off with private label and be very successful as well. Okay and your third option is going to be contract manufacturing now. This is like the bread and butter of the beauty industry because they will create and customize pretty much anything that you want them to do that they're able to do so. This is a customized formulation. This is your formulation, it is for you now. The downside about it is that this is going to be more of the costly option. I would say - and on top of that, if you do not have a large following it can get kind of tricky, because certain project manufacturers - or i should say most of them - they have a really high minimum order quantity. So you can have a country manufacturer. That'S like yeah. We won't work with you unless you agree to at least 1 000 units, or maybe 500 units. You know in my industry is 20 000 units. You understand. So, if you don't have a following: you're gon na have bottles of product just sitting around. In your living room until you, you know, sell out, so that's something to keep in mind as well, but either option will work. You just have to determine what's best for you. Also during the consultation, regardless of what option you decide to choose, i will walk with you through each step and i will also give you guys recommendations on project manufacturers and private label as well. Okay, so next is product design, and this is like my favorite part of just the whole process, because you really get to design a product that is going to perform into something that i teach people how to do in the consultation. So one of the biggest things is going to be research, for you, research is key and i promise you is going to make this entire process so much easier and when i say research, meaning look at products that are doing well in the market. Look at those ingredients if you go through private label or contract manufacturer you're, going to want to know exactly what you want inside a shampoo or a moisturizer, and that only comes from research and also working with me as well, because of course you know, i'm going To give you t on all that good stuff and if expression you're creating at home, you need to learn what to purchase and what to get so now that you've covered product design, you've got a good formula. You love it now, it's time to sell it. So the question is, you know where you're going to sell it at? Are you going to do it local online? Are you going to try to find a store all of these things matter honestly, right now, the pandemic local may not be like the best way, because you know most people are not having flea markets. Most people are having festivals and things of that nature to sell on a local level, but number two is going to be the bread and butter hands down, which is online sales. So this is going to be amazing because you're not only going to reach a local audience, but also the entire world, so, of course having your social media set up for your business. Your website set up for your business, you know and just pretty much selling your product, but you really want to think about the marketing as well, when you are doing online. For example, if you're coming out with a haircut oil having before and after photos, are going to be super important for marketing your product, so during the creation phase, you know give a few samples out to your friends and family. Have them try it out and take before after photos, and you can use that on your website to help launch your product to help sell your product overall. Now i do get some questions about people who, like i want to be in target. How do i get whole foods? The prerequisite for getting into a store is going to be having successful online sales. That'S the first thing they're going to ask you well how's your online sales. What was your revenue for the past year if you can prove to them? Like you're going to be an asset into their store, then that opens the door for you to get into these bigger brands, but the first step is online sales and really mastering that all right guys. So i went up with a lot of information, but the funny thing about it is that that is just not even the tip of the iceberg. There'S so much more that i can share with you guys. That is what the consultations are for, where i can really focus on you and your brand and what you're trying to create okay. So i hope this was super helpful for you. I have a question for you: what's your favorite hair care brand and if it's yours say it's yours and if it's someone else's that's you know anybody just whoever. Just what is your favorite haircare friend and i look forward to joining the conversation with you guys below. Okay, thank you guys so much for watching be sure that you are subscribed like this video comment. Notifications are on. Thank you guys for getting the curly girls guide to hair care ingredients. MyNaturalMyChoice: I always watch your video and I have learned soooo much! I'm going to purchase your consultations class real soon! For the past 2.5 years I love my own products MyNaturalMyChoice

eb Johnson: Not looking to start a haircare line, but my favorite brand is Kinky Curly. It just makes my curls look so good! However, I recently tried the brand Emerge on my son's hair and it works so well! I'm ready to try out some new products this year.

Phylisa God's Child: I LOVE MY HAIR OIL AND THE TESTIMONIALS I GET FROM THOSE WHO BUY IT IS AMAZING WANNA DO MORE PRODUCTS BUT I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY AS YET TO GET YOUR CONSULTATION... Teresa Richardson: My favorite line is my own as well as Bamboo conditioner. TBH, it wasn't until I was answering your question that I realized that I don't really use other product lines in My hair. I've always really done my own thing

Serendipity Lu: Hi Tonya! I have a question for you girl! You say loads about the goodness of oils to the hair and scalp, and my question is, can oil treatments reduce the duration of keratin treatments done at hair parlours? It’s said that products containing salt will. Many thanks in advance x x

uberhaute _naturalz: So far, I'm loving Keracare and As I Am. They both cater to natural hair and are Salon Pro. A little of their products go a long way and they deliver!

M.B.K- MY BROTHER'S KEEPER: I'm definitely heavily into my research in natural herbs and oils from flowers, fruits, nuts and Brazilian Butters. I have a special blend of oils marinating in herbs for 2 months now . As emulsifiers, optiphen, magnesium flakes, jars, bottles, butters & researched oils I've never heard of are delivered to my door just about daily... I'm ready to start mixing and labeling, with samples ready for those to try. Reaching towards the next step when I used a store-bought product is used to be Cantu, now that I'm on a more natural approach due to my divers hair mix of low and high porosity. I use natural products such as fruits, green veggie and flower oils.

Naptural Laricia: Thank you for sharing needed to hear this. I recently started a hair care line but only with hair care oil.

a pitt: My favorite hair care brand is Taliah Waajid... her products are the only products that never fail me. I really think she’s underrated in the natural hair community.

K. Briggs: Favorite curly haircare line is Curl Theory! Helps my high porosity hair retain moisture. Love it!

Bassett Family: Hi ya love this Video I was thinking of starting a hair line. I Live in England I would love to find out more information at this. Blessings Fiona

Bre Henderson: I currently have a contract manufacturer for my shampoo and conditioner. However, I want to start formulating on my own...heading over to your site now. My favorite #StimulateHaircare

Dy: My favorites are Melanin for Leave In and OGX (I think) for shampoo/rinse out conditioner.. I make my own Ayurvedic Oil, Ayurvedic Hair Butter, and Infused Carrot and Avocado Prepoo... About to get into African Black Soap Shampoo and some lip balms/scrubs...

ALLYSUN: I love creating hair and face oils with amla, karanja oiland fenugreek! I’d love creating a fenugreek face and hair oil!

ms1src: Excellent presentation. Thank you!

Pat Tang: I've been making my own hair care products for a year now and my hair is so much healthier. The only store bought product I use is Giovanni's conditioner. I have a deep desire to start a hair care line and I was just sharing what's on my heart with my sister. Then I get on YouTube and see this video ❤ (They're probably stalking me though ) I will definitely reach out to you for a consultation in the near future. Stay amazing!

Sava: When you decide to drop your Curly Chemistry haircare line, it's gonna be over for everybody else in these Youtube streets!

Dee G: I would have to say my Sunshyne Naturals Hair Growth oil which will be launching in February in addition to the Mane Choice and Kera Care hair products. They work well on my low porosity hair

Sequoya Johnson: Can you please do a video on medium porosity hair tips. My hair doesn't get single stand knots and is relatively easy to detangle. I I have a twa currently so it easy to style. Very thick and frizzy naturaly. Not sure what curl pattern but probably a mix from 3c to 4c.

Liz P: With the 1 on 1 will you also help teach how to create a formula. I have the ingredients that I want to use but I don’t know how to form the percentage and make sure it’s correct for sale.

Teresa Richardson: I've embarked the journey of starting my own hair products

Heva Mirlande Mersier: Hi Sharmaine, I love watching your video. If time allows, I would like to speak with you in developing my own line of hair products for my family. Which is the best way to contact you... Best, MM

Monica Lewinsky: This was really helpful. How do I schedule a consultation with you on starting my hair care line? I do not see the link and I really need help with figuring out preservatives . I understand that some products require a emulsification process so that the preservative doesn't separate from the product. I really just want to pay someone to do the preservative step in my products. Thank you.

natural7ly: Original Moxie and Camille Rose My hair is fine, low density, high porosity AKA... Dry! These provide the best moisture for me

Myriam G: I'm loving Innersense and AG Natural at the moment. ❤
