How to thin out thick hair? That'S what we're talking about today. So your hair may look like this right. You may have a ton of hair. It'S just like you feel, like you have 80 pounds of hair on your head, but you want your hair to be to lay flat and smooth like this or not be so heavy and bulky, or you like a little bit less right thick and you want a Little more something like this, so when you rake your fingers through, it goes back easier. You know, having really thick hair, i know, could be a curse to some it's a blessing to others, but if you're attempting to thin your own hair out at home, one good luck and two, i would say you know always go to your professional, your stylist or You know your barber and ask them to thin out your hair. It'S too heavy, but the key is is to show the areas that you feel is heavy in, because the last thing you want a stylist to do or barber is to fit out your hair in areas that you don't need it thinned. That'S just gon na thin out your hair. So if you go in - and you say, my hair is really really heavy in here and you grab that your own hair, you say, look right here, it's really heavy or in the back it's just so much hair. You have to use, like you know, keywords and use visual cues and say like this is where the problem area is. That way. We know where the problem area is we're not guessing. So the more you communicate to us where the trouble areas are, it just makes life so much easier. Now, if you don't want to go into a salon and or a barber shop - and you want to try this at your own leisure you're - on pace, you're going to need thinning, shears right - which these these little bad boys right here, they have the different um. They have the the teeth right in here, so you can see it's just cutting different layers of the hair. It'S not chomping at all. At once. It'S designed to remove bulk and weight from the hair. You can get these anywhere on amazon, i mean they're all over the place. Okay, but what you want to do is anytime you're, working with thinning out hair or removing weight. You want to do it on dry, hair, okay, very, very important to do it on dry hair, because that's when you're going to be able to feel your hair, the the best you don't want to do it on damp hair, because the hair already is going to Be laying much flatter it's not going to feel as thick. What you want to do is feel where it's the thickest like this and then i like to go in with the thinning shear and just i would say, halfway through the hair shaft, do a couple. Little chomps like that, okay, do some light, chomps and - or i like to do little kind of like this, with the thumb just to kind of remove some of it, because it's better to start off uh light than removing too much hair right. And then you see, i'm just i'm not using a comb, i'm just lifting and letting the hair fall into the shears and then what i'm doing is i'm using my thumb to do. I'M not going like this, i'm using the thumb just to remove right, and this is how i normally cut hair anyway, i'm not one to go in and take huge chomps. I will sometimes, but i'm also, i like to be very conservative and then feel as i'm cutting. So you could literally do this yourself and i would suggest only doing this if you've got really really straight hair. If you've got super super thick hair and you will see chunks of hair come out, don't get freaked out like oh, my god, my hair's gone. No, it's just taking out the weight right. This is what's making your hair feel heavy, but i would i would definitely uh only do this on really thick hair straight hair. I would not go near curly hair with this. I would not go near very fine, hair, thin hair unless certain areas have so much that again, you need to debulk the hair in those areas. But again you want to be very, very careful, sometimes i'll do like a surface where i'll brush it back like this and then i'll. Let the the hair fall into the shears like that, and that just adds a little bit of texturizing and, and you know, removing some excess weight. So once you get used to this now, i i've seen and i've gotten a lot of comments from people saying you know a salon guy, i'm. Actually i use your techniques and videos to cut my own hair. I haven't been to a salon or a barber in like 10 years you i follow your videos, i cut my hair so much better than any stylist. If that's the case, let me know and thank you i'm not trying to take business away from our profession, but i do know that there are some hack jobs out there. There'S a lot of hacks that you know they're, not the greatest at cutting hair. I don't claim to be greatest at all. I never talk about my skills, i'm just i just do it and i you know i can improve in some things, but i just tend to share the information that i know and if, if you are someone who uses my techniques to do your hair, then thank You so much i'd love to know, but um you know go to a professional again that you feel confident in make sure you communicate show them visual cues of what's happening. I always say you know, go to go to them first, but if you are attempting to do this at home, just be very, very careful. This is a razor you'll see. This is a feather razor. You'Ll see me use it quite a bit, but again it's a very, very sharp tool. It'S a razor, so there's a high risk that you could possibly injure yourself or cut yourself with any sharp tool. So just be very, very careful, but here it's a lot of surface working and that's going to kind of shave off those excess layers of bulk. But you want to do this on hair again, that's mostly straight hair, not curly, not super wavy at all and you'll know. If your hair is really really heavy and then hopefully these techniques and tips helped you. jaber Ullah: I went to a local Barber asking to thin my hair and even demonstrated how to do it. They just cut everything off. 6 months of hair growth progress lost.

Monika Varro: I have thick hair and they always want to thin out my hair but the hair doesn't bother me unless it's hanging in my eyes. The length of the hair weighs it down. I tried thinning out my bangs but it's temporary. Your hair always goes back to how it was naturally.

Claire Angier: I want to thankyou so much, your videos have really helped me. Since the first lockdown in the UK I have been following all your videos on layering short hair. And although it's taken a little time, I had never cut my own hair before, I'm getting there. I'm far more happy with my results than the salon I used to go to, not to mention the hundreds of pounds im saving! So thanks again Steve. ❤

J: You did allow me to cut my own hair better than I ever got it cut by a barber or salon. I always have a friend do the back though! Thanks man

Murtasma: What about thinning out thick wavy hair?

Elsa Haas: Hairdressers love those thining shears. The first thing I tell a hairdresser is NO THINING SHEARS in my hair. The last thing I need is a million different layers in my curly hair. That’s a nightmare. Why don’t they know that already. And if they insist on point cutting, I’m outta there!

Tony Grudzinski: What is the best way to use thinning shears on the top of your hair? I usually clip the slides of my hair but may need to thin the top.

s. yunuz: Thank you for this video sir What would you suggest for thick curly hair , as my hair gets really poofy and I want to take some volume off but I didn’t know how to do it , I’ve had this same techniques done but all it does is create layers and that doesn’t help me.

Theresa Mansfield: What if I straighten the really thick, ample hair, and then thin it? Will it turn out like what you explained in your video?

KrysLeigh: Thank you for saying not to use this technique on curly hair!

James Supan: I totally agree, but sometimes the barber never listen to their clients and still doing what is not supposed to do with the customers hair. and it costs the person with trust issues reason why they cut their own hair.

Poke Melon The Second: Thank you so much for all your videos I learned a lot

Curgest: Thank you I needed this my hair is SUPER thick

Tracy Jasmine: How often can you do this? For ex: every 6MON- or as needed etc. I figure I’m going to start doing it my self, I feel like last time I got it done I felt my hair still heavy.

cee_: Finally, someone who understands my hair problem is.

PREETI SHARMA: Hey,I am a subscriber from India.Sir,I have fine to medium naturally straight long hair.I want some short layers on the front to give volume as nothing much can be done on straight hair if you don't style them the cut would not be prominent.I don't use products and want natural way to increase volume in the front without losing much hair length.kindly make a video on this with long hair dummy.

Mehedi Hasan Shibly: Thank You Sir For This Dark Background. it is so nice of you that you listen to your viewer's. soo soothing to watch now. :D

Why did the balloon eat the Fox?: Amazing thank you man I love your hair techniques. I’m just wondering if u can do an Amithabh Bachchan hairstyle from the 70s because I really like the length and style of era. Thank you

GreatestAndGreatest: Thank you so much!! Unfortunately I have to do it myself because where I live (Chile) no stylist know how to thin out hair.

JoyfulKiller: would you recommend using a relaxer to straighten hair as thick as the one in this video or would it damage it too much?

Izzat Azim: You never win a challenge or stood a chance to win with this guys when it's come "don't touch your hair challenge".

Jhed Covers TV: Hello sir I hope that you can read my comments I hope that you do more videos about improving a hairstyles with having a flat back head/ the sculp. Thank you so much.. ❤❤❤

EWOK: Can you maybe make a video on how to turn straight hair into curly/wavy hair at home easy because i have straight hair but i want a bit more messy curly wavy hair?

Fouad Nassar: When he said "one, good luck" I was like okkkkk you don't have to guilt me bruh

Roy lifshitz: What should i tell the barber if i wanna thin it out? And how can i know if he does a good job before he is done? Thank you so much love your vids

Ademar Neto: Yo stephen how long would you say the Tidal Wave lasts if i use it everyday like 10 sprits

Војин Самарџић III: I already have thin hair and my barber always thin me more. I always told him that i want thick hair and he always thin my hair. I change barber almost every time and they are all the same

Alison Lett: My hair is just like the head you used today, I'm going to try that myself!

TheCrustiCroc: In your video from June 1 you said you are not a fan of the multiple light chomps, instead you let the hair fall and do one big chomp. Here you use multiple small cuts. Which one is better? Why are you using light cuts now?

MsBeaKay: Enjoyed your video!

Ayn: Please do how to fix bad layers on a haircut. I really need the video

Felix san✨: "always go to professional" Me: okay I come to you wait.

Aaron Kelly: Your channel is a miracle

Bailey Sinclair: Will it make it shorter if you’re wanting long hair

Ava Dickey: Tbh I trust you with my life lol

Hariz: I wish my 'problem' is having thick hair

CHA EUN WOO: Can you please suggest me a versatile haircut that can go with many hairstyles.. such as 90's leonardo dicaprio hairstyle, korean fringe hairstyle..

Tomas Jönebratt: Why would you not use the thinning shears on curly hair? What would you do instead?

A1Brady: Can you please do a Baylen Levine hair tutorial

KadamakinoIV: men i want my hair to be like that my hair is so flat and a bit long and idk what to do

Lone Wolf: i don't trust myself with cutting my own hair but i trust the hairstylists/barbers in my area even less. they have no idea how to work with thick hair. so i stopped going to them, decided to cut my own hair, and probably saved myself a lot of money and avoided unnecessary disappointment over the years.

Bamberditto PingPong: Thick hair and high hairline? Perfect video for me

Naveena Persad: @TheSalonGuy can you please do a tutorial on Jacob Rott's haircut

Return Tosender: I’m so glad that you listen to your clients!!!! I just don’t understand why hairdressers feel the need to thin out our thick hair. I don’t want thin hair- I lose lots of it each day n soon I’ll be crying because I’ve lost a lot but please never assume we want this done

CookieThug: i have the same thick hair as that doll lol!!

Carl Vella Channel: Before and after.. with hair and then just bold lol

Gabriel Castro: Anyway to do this with curly hair?

Sheldon Junior: I use zig zag scissors and I won't notice when I cut too short that's create big ass huge bald spot at my upper head

Alison Lett: How do you handle a hairdresser that doesn't like to be told where to "thin out " because in her mind , she knows better than you?

Crimson_Phoenix: Hello, can you make a video about Nero(from devil may cry 5) haircut/hairstyle?
