How To Style Your Curls To Minimize Frizz & What Products Work Best

How To Style Your Curls To Minimize Frizz & What Products Work Best #curlyhair #curlyhairroutines #cleanproducts

I have gotten so many questions about hair products and how I style my hair so I thought I would put together a video to show everything that goes into styling my hair. I usually only have to wash and style my hair every 3 or 4 days. I have switched to all clean products by Innersense that work wonders on curly hair. I hope you enjoy and let me know if you have any questions.

I have had a lot of people. Ask me on my YouTube channel what products I use and how I do my hair, and so I wanted to do a hair tutorial as kind of a separate thing from my normal content. So this is being posted on a different day than I normally post all the other days. You will see kind of the normal fashion content I do, but for those of you that have requested how I do my hair and what products I use. This is for you and I hope you enjoy if you're new around here. This is not very common. For me to do but welcome to my channel and if you have curly hair then I hope you're watching this because of that, and I hope it will help you because I know curly hair can be very, very difficult. I know because mine is very difficult, so thank you for watching. I would love it if you hit the thumbs up on this video if you liked it and if you want to hit that subscribe button and join my channel, I would love that and hit the little bell to get notified locations and we will go ahead and Jump in and get started before I get started. I do want to say that not all curly hair is created equal which not all hair is created equal. So whatever I tell you in this video, if it doesn't work for you, then try to figure out how to use products for your hair type and then how you want to create your curls and what you want to do to make your own curly hairstyle and The one thing that I can recommend for anyone that's going on a curly hair Journey. That'S what I call it because never ends it's just a continuous Journey find someone that knows how to cut curly hair. So I went to a girl several years ago that got a license in Diva Curl techniques, and so it was a Diva Curl salon and she has now since moved on. Her own doesn't work in a salon and she learns new techniques all the time and I've moved away from Diva Curl products if you're familiar with Eva Curl products and I'll talk about that a little bit more in a minute. But what I want to say is find someone that knows how to cut curly hair. She cuts my hair dry. I usually go in with my hair, curly and and styled, and then she cuts from there because your curls are going to be different in different areas of your hair. You might have extra curly underneath and not as curly on top, and you know it's all different. All over your head, at least it is for me, so that works out the best for me so find someone. That is the best thing I can tell you is to find someone that can cut curly hair, so more than likely, if they know how to cut it, they know how to style it and they've just used so many different products and the products I'm using in This video are clean products because I have been moving away from a lot of the chemicals at least trying to, and I have found some things that I really love, so I will share those with you as we go along as well. So, of course, the first thing I do is wash my hair, and I did not do a tutorial of that in this video because everybody has to wash their hair. I wash it. I use the same products and I will link all the products that I use below. I'M not going to get in detail about my shampoo and conditioner, but I use a shampoo and conditioner that works really well for my hair and when I put the conditioner in my hair in the shower, I really just rake my hands through and you'll, see how I'M putting product in my hair in this video, I use my fingers and I rake it through from root to end, and that really helps with you know, making them making your hair smooth and getting a lot of that frizz out, because curly hair can have a Lot of frizz, so I wash it with shampoo and conditioner. When I get out of the shower, I keep my hair stopping wet. If, for some reason I have to do something else before I can fix my hair, I always keep a water bottle on me. Let me grab my water bottle. This little spray bottle is awesome. I will link my one for you, it's a continuous spray and you really have to style your hair if you have curly hair from very, very wet from root to tip so keep this with you. If you're putting your product on and your hair seems a little dry, which you'll see me doing in this video, then you really want to wet it, and the product will feel very different in your hands with wet hair, as opposed to damp or a little bit Dry hair so make sure your hair is sopping wet. I mean dripping you'll, see the shirt in this video that I'm wearing is pretty sopping wet because you want your hair really wet. So what I do when I get out of the shower, is I first brush it with this. I actually used to never brush my hair, but this is a Denman brush and it has been so helpful in just smoothing the hair out. So I have really really loved this, and I also use this whenever I'm putting product in my hair. If my hair feels frizzy, then I will put the brush through it it and and rake through my hair again until it feels smooth - and that has been very helpful for me so once I've brushed through my hair. The first thing I start with is this smoothing cream and the products that I use are by innersense. I used to mix intersense with a product from Diva Curl that has, it was a new product they came out with. It was a gel and it was unscented because I used to use Diva Curl in the past and my husband was actually allergic to it. Every time he got close to me, he would just stop up anytime. My hair got anywhere near him, so I swapped products and these are all clean products and I've really loved them, and this smoothing cream, it's called Serenity. Smoothing cream has been the best thing ever so at first, I start putting it on the ends. I just get about a nickel size amount in my the palm of my hand rub it around, and then I just grab the ends of my hair and just start pulling down, and then I go to the root and start pulling down. So I mix it all and then I put the brush through the hair just to get this all over my hair and then the next thing I do is I put this. I create shine, which is an oil and I've, had this bottle for about four months and there's only a tiny bit gone. So I use about four or five drops, and I just smooth that through my hair the same way, I do the smoothing cream and this just helps with a lot of the frizz, and it helps give it a little bit of shine. So these two products books are my favorite. If you deal with frizz and you have a little bit of coarse hair, I'm starting to get a little bit of gray, that's really coarse and my hair's changed as as I'm getting older. It'S changing it's getting a little bit more dry, so these have become a little bit more important to me, but I don't use a ton of these and they will last you a really long time if you wanted to try something like this and now for one Of the most important parts, which is the gel - and this is the gel I used to use this and then I switched to the unscented Diva Curl, and then I switched back to this. The reason why I stopped using this is because this did not give me longevity in My Curls, so I could not have second or third day curls, because all the FR you go through to style your hair and when it's curly should last you a few days And so I usually go two to three days, sometimes four days with my hair, and it does just fine and I'll re-wet it sometimes I'll re-add some product, usually not the gel I'll re-add, some of the smoothing cream or the oil into my hair just to help It a little bit or you know I'll, just throw it up, not worry about wearing it down. It still looks really cute curly, so this is, I create hold and they reformulated this. So I'm trying it again and I've actually really loved it this time around, and I think it is I'm using a little bit more of it. You'Ll see how much I actually use, because when you put gel on your hair, what you want to do is just separate in sections like I'm doing so all I've done is put about a pea sized amount. Every time I do a section of my hair, I put a pea sized amount of this in my hand, I rub it around my hands and then I pull you can see how I'm pulling my hair, how I'm smoothing it? Because you really, when you have curly hair the smoother, you can get your hair the better, and sometimes you just have to work at it, and I've really had to work at mine because it's so frizzy, naturally it's frizzy, and so I do this all over. I used clips grab my Clips, so I use these black little Clips. You can get Clips on Amazon. If I can find some like these, I will link them for you, but it just can hold the sections. This was a little bit weird for me doing it in front of the camera, because I wasn't in front of the mirror. I just had this little screen. That shows me what I'm doing so. I hope you get the gist of that. It'S just taking small sections depending on how big or how small you want your curls to be, and you can see each section. I'Ve taken I've smoothed through it. Sometimes I take the brush through it and if you want a certain section of your hair to have a little bit of lift, then you can use that brush to kind of you know twist it and and just kind of lift it and give it some actual. Lift you can also dry your hair with Clips in it holding the roots, but I don't really like doing that. I just usually blow dry it upside down and that's really helpful for me and you will learn to feel the product in your hair. You will learn when your hair is too dry, like I had sections where I had to re-wet, because the product feels very different wet than it does when it goes into dry, hair, so on wet hair, you'll learn this just try. It take a section of your hair, that's you know a little bit dry put it through it and then take a section. That'S really wet put it through it and feel the difference in the product, because it really makes a difference, and I use I mean a pea-sized amount for each section. If it's a larger section, I'll use a little bit more and so by the end, your hair should start to feel a little bit crunchy, and so that's by the end of putting it in like. I can feel when I start crunch scrunching it so after you're done you want to flip your hair over what I do. I guess you can do it whatever way you want, but what I do is I flip it over and I just start scrunching and I can hear the product and it's you know kind of squishing through my fingers and it gets a little foamy because you're mixing The smoothing cream with the gel - and so I just keep scrunching scrunching scrunching till I feel like I have really good curls. You can see how curly my hair got and so then I take my Hairspray, which y'all are probably like. Wow, that's a lot of product on your hair, but it's really. These products are really light and I really love this hairspray guys. This has been one of the best hairsprays I've ever used, it's Misty but kind of wet, and I have to be careful on my bathroom because it sticks all over everything. So usually I go in the shower to spray it, but I do spray this on wet, hair and then I'll spray on my finished hair, and this just helps it dry a little bit faster and it helps keep kind of keep the frizz in place, and I Have found that using this has made a big difference in that too, so you could stop at the gel. But if you wanted just that extra oomph, then this is going to do it for you. If you want that little bit extra hold, and so all I do is I I use a Dyson hair dryer, because I know it's an expensive hair dryer, but it's the best hair dryer on the planet. It dries my hair, so well it reduces frizz. It dries. My hair really fast and it's not loud, it's just wonderful, so I've had my Dyson hair dryer since last Christmas. My mother gave it to me and I I'll never buy another hair dryer unless there's one like this, and so what I do is I I take the heat on it, but I don't touch the hair with the dryer, yet I don't start scrunching in so I Try to get a cast on the outside of my hair, so you'll feel it get a little bit hard, and that way you got you've got that extra hold on that frizz, and so, when you go in with the hair, dryer and start scrunching, like you see Here I just take sections and I go from end to root a lot of people like doing their root first and if you want lift in certain areas, I would definitely you know you can use the tips of the diffuser. You always want a diffuser on your hair dryer. Let me grab the hair dryer, so this is the hair dryer. This is the diffuser, so you can take these tips and it helps lift. So I will take it into the hair and lift it up and dry. It there and hold it and then I'll dry it upside down and - and I flip from one side to the other, because that helps I don't know my hairdresser does it, I'm not sure why I do it, but it works really. Well, I get tired of doing one side, I guess and I'll do another, but it kind of helps get lift all the way around, as opposed to not and you're kind of drying it evenly. So you do a little bit on one side and then a little bit on another, and you do the back and so that's kind of why it happens that way you can do whatever you want to do, but that's what I do and it works for me And I just go back and forth and then I S you don't want to touch your hair too much like you, don't want to move like put your hands in there and scrunch it around too much while you're drying it. You just want to let it dry and it's going to feel hard if you have enough product in there, it's going to feel really hard, but this I'm recording this after I did my hair and it's really soft and it's shiny and it's not super frizzy and It has just been really really. It does really good. You think, with all that crunch that you're it's just not going to work, and you know once you start scrunching it out after it's dry and you take your fingers and run them through your scalp to get lift in the hair, and you just shake all that. Crunchiness out and it all softens up - and you can continue to do that until your whole head feels soft and then basically, you put your hair in place where you on it spray some hairspray on it and you're done, and so that is really all I do. It is a process, and it's something that I don't like doing all the time. So I only fix my hair every three or four days and it works for me and find products that work for you. The inner sense products are wonderful, they don't have a heavy scent, there's no chemicals in them. They are clean products and they have I've used them for a really long time. I switched my gel out here and there, but now I am back to their gel and I really really love it. So I do recommend that if you want clean products, they're some of the best for curly hair, a Dyson hair dryer - is awesome. The Denman brush and all the things I've talked about in the video I will link in the description for you below and if you have any questions, please leave them in the comments. I will answer them and I hope you enjoyed this. I hope you found it helpful and thank you for watching. Your Guide To Style: Hey! I forgot to link the sorry bottle so here it is! https://rstyle.me/cz-n/hit7ixce4fp

stupor mundi: In your videos I always notice your hair is so stunning that even when you do a very casual or more monochromatic look it still has that extra special flair. It's especially striking against dark and rich colours I see it involves some maintenance but it's so worth the effort! My hair is only a bit wavy but I'm going to try and adapt your method to see if I can get more definition to the waves. I never knew hair spray could be used on wet hair to set the curls and speed up the drying process, I'm definitely trying that too :>

Carolyn K: Thanks for the great video. I follow the same steps, although no Dyson dryer. The Denman brush helps a lot. I use Curlsmith products from their Shine line, which is fragrance free & works great on my fine, wavy hair. Your hair always looks wonderful. I appreciate all the details you shared.

Teresa Becker: Great tutorial! Thank you for your detail! I also use Innersense along with product from Ecoslay. She makes her products in her home with all natural ingredients. I am pleased to learn more about some of the Innersense products I have not tried. They are now on my list. Sadly, I have to drive an hour for a diva cut. I purchased a Dyson through ebay for half the cost but it did not last over two years, not the fault of Dyson. I sure missed my dyson until I recently discovered the Shark that is very similar to Dyson and I like it. Thank you again for a much appreciated video!!

Becky Martin: Thank you. I’ve admired your curly hairstyle. I found out recently that there are different levels of Deva stylists, and I’m glad I investigated and switched. My current stylist was the one to tell me about how wet your hair needs to be when applying product.

Nancy Anne's Unboxings: Great video, Jamie! When you say it lasts several days, what are you doing to get it to keep the style? If you sleep on it it doesn't it get messed it again?

Susan Sisk: Your hair is beautiful….but your video reversed my curly hair envy . Mine is baby fine and then some plus it is stick straight. Products don’t even give me volume for more than five minutes. I’ve finally come to terms with my hair and am thankful for what I have. Thanks Jamie!

MegaJansue: Your hair is just beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing!!

Tracy Gray: Thanks for sharing! Your hair always look great on your videos!!

Pam Penney: Yes!!! I was one of the ones that asked . Thank you !

Pam Penney: It is so important to get someone who knows how to cut curly hair. I finally found someone and now I’m moving

Starbright Blue: YES!!! Was hoping you would do this.

Brenda McNabb: I am a curly hair girl too but much more lazy...wash and go :-)

Tracy Thomas: I agree the most important thing to do is find someone that specializes in cutting curly hair. I personally watch Manes By Mell here on YouTube, she’s a curly hair specialist and has curly hair herself. She gives so much advice and product information. It’s invaluable. I use all Ouidad products. I think in all curly hair products the styling gel is the most important product in the lineup they each offer. I only have to wash my hair once a week. My curly style stays for a week.

Sheila Hall: How often do you wash your hair? How often do you use shampoo? How does it not get flat when you sleep on it?

Alley Cat: You listened:) Thanks so much!

Rima Almalla: So beautiful
