Please note that I'm not a medical doctor or a qualified cosmetic chemist. I do my best to quote credible scientific studies and link to all the studies in the description so you can fact-check me, but I can't 100% guarantee that all my info is error-free. It's important to consult your doctor and do what's best for you individually.

If I could only give you three pieces of advice for a guy growing their hair out for the first time who has no idea where to start this is the one video you should watch. It has nothing to do with shortcuts hair supplements sleeping longer. Hydrating nutrition biotin any of the lifestyle changes you could make now, while that stuff is important for long-term air Health. The truth is, if you don't get these three things down. First you're gon na stay frustrated with whatever hair problem that you're dealing with, but enough Chit Chat, let's get into them. The first hair mistake is that you don't know what your hair type is, and I've talked about this a million times on the channel. If you've heard me harp on figuring out your hair type, you know Skip ahead, but this is simply a fact. If you have no clue what your hair type is, then you're blind regarding what products to buy. How often is shampoo, how much product to use and what your hair is and is not capable of so people who don't know what their hair type is, will try all these other tips and tricks they see on YouTube like cold showers, conditioning first taking bow Alton Pills but they're still using the wrong products in the wrong regimen and they're, just stuck with hair that they hate and they cut their hair and they give up. So if you want to get on the right path to hair that you love to rock. Knowing your hair type is step, one so Travis. How do I figure that out? So I have three actually really easy ways you can do that. The easiest is just to download my app in the app store. It'S called mannered Mains. It'S a hundred percent free! It'S in the app and the Google Play Store and we onboard you into the Men's Grooming Community with a hair type quiz. So we ask you some simple questions and you answer them and once you're done you can go, look at your hair profile and see what your hair type is. It'S just as simple as one two three: if you don't want to add more apps to your phone, then I do have a 20 minute video on YouTube, where I go into the science of hair type, how to figure out what yours is I ramble on for A while so I'd recommend watching it on like one and a half speed and also skip forward to get to the good stuff. If you don't want to watch that video and you don't want to download the app, I have a free pdf, you can download and there's no email, email required. It'S literally just to fill in the blank PDF document that you could keep in forever. So I've made it so easy for you to discover what your hair type is, because I truly believe, if more guys took the time to figure it out, they could get on the right track to an epic main. So the second piece of advice and the mistake that guys make is that, once you know, your hair type is actually using that information. The right way - and this is shopping correctly - finding the best products and figuring out the best regimen for you. For example, if you have a dry scalp, you have fine textured hair, then you will want lightweight gentler products, because fine hair is thinner. It damages easier. It breaks easier going with something that's lightweight and volumizing, and perhaps sulfate free is going to be the best bet, so something like the jvn and body line, the Odell volumizing line or going with formulate, which makes custom, shampoo and conditioner for your hair type. Now, let's take another example, let's say you have coarse hair, it's curly and you have a greasy scalp, so you'll need something. That'S a little more wave, defining like a curl cream and you'll want a stronger detergent to fight that greasy scalp and then you'll want probably a heavier conditioner to help moisturize those curls using your hair type as a guide to shop for products and then figuring out. Your regiment, regimen, regiment regimen, is the second must do so. The third piece of advice - and the third mistake I see a lot of guys making - is not knowing how to combine all of this together and put this into practice and actually figure out a regimen until you find something, that's perfect for you I'll give you like A really specific example, so most guys use way too much product. They figure out their hair type. Is they shop correctly, but then they use so much product that their hair starts feeling weighed down and overly greasy, and then they complain that oh, I did all the first two steps but nothing's working. It'S not because you're using the wrong products. It'S probably because you're using too much so air on the side of less product, so I was chatting with my stylist Charlene the other day, who actually you guys can book for a virtual consultant through the Maynard Mains. App. If you want she's amazing she'll help. You figure out all of your hair problems in one 30 minute session, I'll link to it in the description. But she said that most of the guys that come in have so much oil buildup in their hair and she would ask them why. And they would say that they would apply oil daily, they would apply like argan oil, coconut oil and they would put so much of it in their hair every single day, she'd have to clarify it and then reset their hair and then fix all that build up. So not only do you need to know your hair type and what the right products are and what the right regimen is, but you need to use the right amounts of product, so I can guarantee that once you master these three things, 99 of your hair problems Are going to disappear and then you can start focusing on the hydration and the sleep and all the other things. So just a reminder: right, first figure out your hair type, download the man and Mains app take the quiz second figure out the right products for your hair type. What shampoo, what conditioner, maybe a leave-in, maybe a curl cream! If needed and quick side note, you can actually upgrade on the main remains app to get custom product directs from me. So I'll go in and I'll look at your hair type and I'll just send you a quick, wrap recommendation of what I think the best products are for you and you can shop for it on the app. If you don't want to upgrade I'll link to some of my favorite products based on hair type, in the description you can kind of shop for yourself, but then the third is to dial in the regimen and use the correct amount of product, and this takes practice. It'S trial and error so practice practice until you finally get hair that you love, and I will say that sometimes you may be starting this process. You'Ve already done it wrong for a long time, so you may have damaged hair. You may have been doing a lot of this incorrectly, so if that's the case, I'd recommend visiting like a stylist at a salon and not a barber, because they can kind of assess your hair they're more familiar with longer hair. They can find cuticle damage. They can find Split Ends product buildup. They can give your hair a reset. They can trim those split ends. Essentially they'll give you a clean slate to start from so then now you can get back on the right path and start from that step. One two: three: those are the three things that you should Master. If you want to love your long, hair and I'll see you guys in the next video

M Rence: Trav, You’ve put SO MUCH, into helping guys, grow their manes out! Patience was the best advice I learned!

pheloki hair: You give great advice for all the people who are starting out with long hair! You are right, you need to find your routine. Also it is ok to experiment and overdo product or use too little. Hair is forgiving, at leas from my experience haha

Zackfrm330: im 22 and im growing my hair out for the 1st time(been at 1in my whole life lol) and i doubt i could go back to short hair for a super long time because i just feel like its too plain and boring of a look and i cant do anything with it when its short, i cant wait to get my hair in a messy bun

Florencio Mendoza: Great advise “ again & again “ for those who don’t understand. Thank you Trav my hair is shoulder length now ( 3 attempts) & very healthy. Enjoying my man bun & diff style. Thick & normal. Thanks to Jessie B lol your fan barber. I follow you both. Thanks again. I’ll stop growing long when I reach your length. ( will just trim the ends ) my hair stylist not happy coz I don’t come anymore every 5-6 weeks for haircut And he spent too much time & products ( organic etc) for colouring the base plus hi- low lights every 4-5 months a year. Affected his income lol. Cheers ❤️

Charlie: Hi I love your videos and have recently become interested in my hair care. I currently use a leave in conditioner and curl cream on my 2c hair. I was wondering how often I should be using them (btw I shampoo 2 times a week)

James LeBeau: The best thing I've done when growing out my hair is learning to shred on guitar.

Kevin: Incredible mane Trav, I'm going to go back to short hair in a week, after 3 years with such long hair Thanks for all the help you've given

Wolfric The Augur: Been growing my hair (2c) wavy for about 3 years now and can’t find the right products for my hair, the main problems I face with my hair is dryness and frizziness any tips to help combat them? Thanks for all the Advice hoping for healthier hair in 2023

gagalover2k10: I have fine wavy hair so I cannot wait to start using the embody shampoo and conditioner from jvn that I got for Christmas. I already use his recovery serum and blow out styling milk and they’re both great

DannyCranberry: My hair goes flaky and looks like dandruff when I blow dry my hair and it looks all damaged and frizzy, but when I don’t blow dry my hair, it looks healthy with no dandruff… how would you explain this one?

Trenton Jardine: Just turned 29 and growing my hair out again. Ive grown it to just above my shoulders at least 4 times now and end up cutting it all off. Not necessarily because of not knowing how to take care of my hair but because i dont know a single person besides my wife who can cut it without fucking it up. Id say i have a 2b/c hair type. Itll have a medium loose coil depending on what i use in my hair and how often i wash it. I either have lots of volume and less defined curls or nice tighter defined curls while feeling greased out all day. Its a delicate balance between washing/not washing and not using too much conditioner or no conditioner at all sometimes depending on how greasy it feels. But mainly end up cutting it off due to not knowing how to cut my hair as it grows out. It can easily go into mullet territory if i let the back grow too long before the top can have enough length and letting the below the earline section go too long looks unkempt as well. Or i try to keep those two areas relatively trimmed and easily start looking like an afro. This time i have to let it grow even when the going gets tough.

،lilo 🥀: can you make a video about "how to grow your hair out from undercut in a corect way" thanks and love from iraq ❤❤❤❤

Martian Leader (Richy): I found that using sulfate free products helps my hair a lot and blow drying sea salt spray on cold/low heat enhances it even more and gives better volume/body as it's normally so fine/thin. I do need to find a different sea salt spray though as the one I'm using is a "Beach Matte" product and I think my hair wants a different kind. I'll do more research on that though, Thank you Trav for all the helpful tips and info

Zk: i feel like cutting my hair to a fade, and have been feeling that way for a while . its been 2 years and my 2nd time growing it out. The first time i cut it and regretted it. but man a fade looks nice

zNiteSkiies: Buzzed my hair off It’s a lot to maintain Gonna grow it back again once my workload is less busy

Ana lu: Acho cabelo masculino muito mais bonito pode até ficar sem fazer algo como hidratação mesmo assim cabelo masculino é lindo

Kyriakos_G 327: trav i know my hair type but the only thing i cant stand is that its too wavy and i m blow drying every day trying to straighten some stubborn waves...of course with heat protectant and not so much blow drying close to the hair i cant accept my wavy hair

david woollam: Good advice from somebody who teaches hairdressers and barbers . Your mane is looking really good by the way .

Devil 4: Please make videos on skin.... Would love to attend chemistry classes....

Dan Murphy: Are your videos intentionally sped down? It's so weird, I watch all my videos at 2x speed, but sometime switch back to normal. When I watch you at normal, it sounds so strange like your audio is glitching. When I bump the video to 1.25x, it sounds totally normal and natural. Some weird framerate stuff happens at normal speed, too, but at 1.25x, all looks normal. Anyone else noticing this?

Cristoder Diaz: Damn I cut it off a month ago

Joe: I’ve been binging your videos for a while. Been a year since I’ve cut my hair, started investing in good hair care. Currently In vacation in Thailand and my 80% done awkward phase hair is poofy like a tumbleweed, I need product recommendations lol. Argan oil, high hold paste / spray? Thanks Trav, just finished your beard brand videos

Kwan In: Is it normal that my hair only looks good on the next day? (2a/2b)

Richard Bently: Appreciate all the knowledge. You guys should test on chromebook, the app hasn't worked once for me on chromebook.

Gaurav: Dunno but tips from a guy with long hairs sounds trusty

Abdul Gkhan: I know.. Mine is Silky Smooth

Abdul Gkhan: HANDSOME

Abdul Gkhan: use serum.. Ur hairs dryg

Eraiding Herrang: By favourite youtubers
