Jocelyn McClellan All right: let's do this.! Okay, I'm going to bring to you a long, lasting curls.. How do you make your curls last When you have short hair? What do you do I'm going to roll that out right, now., All right! You want to know how you can make your curls last and I'm going to show you., But first before I show you how to make your curls last today, I wanted to show you all the angles of my hair so that you can see what kind of Cut I have because I get that question all the time., So I did my side part. Jensey said I couldn't, but I did. Okay here is this side. Here's the backside. Okay.? No, I don't have the ola shave on the undercut in the backside. Any longer. - And here is this side., So you can tell that we added texture down here at the bottom, but it just has that texture. And then throughout. There are a couple pieces throughout. If you were to look inside here that just has some internal layers, which means my stylist went in and tip cut or what's another name for it. I'M brain farting. What it's called. Anyways ask your stylist. And that's what we do all through here in just key places, but it does have a little bit of texture down here at the bottom.. All right., With having short hair, also comes the luxury of getting hair wands that aren't too big.. So my very favorite hair wand to make things stay. Is this tapered one right here.? So I'm going to teach you how to curl this hair to make it stay as well., But this is the tapered one that I use.. I like how it's smaller down here and it goes a little wider up top.. What I do is the hair that I'm going to work on. I go up and over so I get more volume up here, especially when you're trying to get that curl to stay.. That makes a lasting difference and adds in volume.. So I always start at the bottom.. I used to be the kind of girl that did not set at the bottom, who just started at the top and worked my way through., But this really truly does make a difference. Before I start too, if you're trying to get a lasting curl but you're not Willing to put product into your hair before you blow dry, you're, hosing yourself.. So I have my very favorite three things. I put in the Glaze Hair Lotion first.. Then I put in the Whipped Mousse and then I put in salt and sea spray.. So if these are not the products that you want to use, you want to utilize the ones that you have at your house.. This one is protection., It has a heat protector in it and it helps take care of the hair.. It protects the hair., It's a hydrating, definer amplifier.. It has jojoba seed oil, sunflower, extract thermal and UV protectant., A mousse. You want to make sure you get one that isn't too heavy.. This one is a volumizing mousse.. I love it. And it's not too heavy. And then salt and sea spray.. There are salt and sea sprays that have oils in them and some that do not.. This one does not., And so I use a salt and sea spray to add texture. All right. Let'S roll this baby out. So remember when you're trying to get those lasting crawls, you want to make sure you keep clean pieces., So you're either going to go in and with a comb or go in with a brush. But you definitely want to get your clean pieces., So I'm going to come in here. What I mean by clean pieces too, that it's brushed out., It's sectioned off for that piece that was just trying to come. Up. You keep that stuff out of it.. It'S just a really clean piece., The bottom I'm going to bring this as close to my root as I can without burning myself., And then your bottom. This part that you're holding onto you will decide how much you want to leave out or put in. So you're going to hold those in there a little bit longer too. When I'm at the underneath part. I don't care as much, but when I'm at the top part, I'm going to be very aware of how long I hold it in., Because when you're aware of how long you hold it in that's going to help hold that curl as well.. So what I did to my hair earlier today to get it really really straight. Is I have this blow drying hair tool.? It'S called the Le Volume from L'Ange And it is just like a round brush with a heating element in it.. Truly, it is so good.. I absolutely love it with all my heart., So you can tell these really awesome. Curls are happening. This hair tool. This one makes me giddy.. It really makes me happy., So I haven't even used this since I cut my hair a little bit shorter.. So this underside, if you ever, have an underneath, I might have to pull out the flat iron, if I'm being completely honest with you.. If you ever have an underneath that just won't curl, because it is too short - and you feel like you're, going to keep burning yourself if you use your hair wand, then use the flat iron on the underneath part. And then you can just gradually go into your hair wand and be totally fine., So I'm going to continue going all the way around and then I'll meet you back here on this front side.. So I got all of that done on the bottom.. So I'm going to take my hair spray and I'm going to spray the pieces that were done. So we're just going to keep them there.. Oh, I missed a whole section., But that is what we want to do with each section that we do. So we'll spray. It with the hairspray. Anytime, you have heat, you want to make sure that you are keeping the heat as best as you can.. So if your hair has a hard time, you have an event going on even pin it into that curl. So it keeps the curl. The whole time, while the heat is relaxing., Okay, now we're to go around to the next one. So brush. So I have clean pieces and I'm going to pull this.. That sucker is trying to get into that curl and I don't want it to., But we should be okay., So this is sitting in there about 10 seconds.. I have my heat set at 390.. Get that piece right over here, where I want it. And you're going to take pieces that are in their area., So inch by inch is what I like to take.. And then I do a rope wrap.. So it might start as a flat wrap, but it turns into a rope wrap.. I have other videos where I talk about the difference between a rope, wrap and a flat wrap.. I also have other tutorials that are for straightening, using that Le Volume hair tool that I talked about a little bit ago.. I have all that jazz. So check out those babies. If you haven't. Subscribe to this channel, because it's helpful at least, I think it is. I'm trying to be. All right, so we hold that in there a little bit. Holy moly. Look at that baby. Wow.. She is set.. She is crazy. There we go. There. We go. Okay round and round. We go. I'm going to continue doing this around to the other side and I'll show you more when I get to the top, because it's easier for you to see throughout it all., But I'm just going to continue going around. I'll. Just speed up this process., So it doesn't take as long, but you can still see what it is that I'm doing. ( silence ) All right, so we're going around this next one.. So you have to remember that the smaller pieces you grab hold of the more tight it is going to be., But it creates a whole different. Look too., So decide what you want.. It also might take a little bit longer.. At the same time, though, it wouldn't because the wider pieces, you pull the longer that curl, has to stay in there., So that can make a difference. Too.. Now, when I have it come out, I want to make sure that I'm keeping that curl in here as much as possible and now I'm going to pay really close attention to these curls., I'm spraying them and I'm going to let them sit a little bit.. So I'm really not pulling down. Now if this was a hairstyle that you don't want it to be that curly, while it's hot, you can pull it down., But where this is a hairstyle that we're trying to create lasting curls. That'S going to make a difference for you across the board., So for lasting curls. You want to make sure that this is something that you don't have to wash your hair, the next day.. If you're doing your hair for an event, though you probably want to do your hair really curly on day one hair and have the event beyond day two hair and recurl it on day, two hair., It depends what it is, but really and truly when I was Styling people's hair - I didn't want them to have the cleanest of hair. And I don't mean greasy.. I mean that day. Two hair can be super helpful for you, because the curl is already solid. There. The other thing that you want to remember and I'm going to write this down somewhere in this video: do not flat iron your hair and then want to curl it.. It does not help you create lasting curls., So don't flat iron, your hair, if you have the intention of creating lasting curls in the same wash., It will make your curls not stay, and it will make your curls not as strong.. So you want to avoid that at all., So we're going on five seconds, six, seven eight. And I always feel the top of them. Make sure you feel the actual hair and not your iron. Once I can feel that it's pretty hot to the touch. That is when I release it, but we're coming up to this top. So I'm going to release it very slowly and I'm going to try really hard for that curl to be held. And then I'm going to spray. I've seen some people who will spray their hair with hairspray and then curl. That is harder on the hair.. So hairspray has an alcohol in it, an SD alcohol or a [, Dana 00:10:57 ] alcohol.. This one then has, I don't know, I'd have to look for a second with what's English and what's not, but this one they have the alcohols in them so that they dry quicker. And when you're having that in your hair. In that way, it's just not the safest.. So it's not something that I would do all the time.. If you had an event coming up yeah, you could., You could go in there and spray, because this is a very random thing. You'Re not doing it all. The time., But on the daily, if you're, wanting your curls to last, I highly recommend not putting hair spray in your hair and then curling, because it's not as good for your hair for sure.. So I'm just going to continue going this around eight nine. 10. 11. 12. And I think it's ready to pull like so. And then you can spray with that. Hairspray. We'll come around to this back side.. So now I'm going to switch to the other side other hand and come back around here like so., Make sure you keep your iron pointed up and down. When we're on our back. It'S easy to go like this, but we need to make sure that we're pointing our iron up and down. So. 10. 11. 12. 13.. I think this is about good there. Spray, that baby. And then onto the next one. Keep my pieces, nice and clean., And here we go. Four five, six, seven, eight, nine. 10. 11. 12. 13.. So it depends on how thick your piece is. Too., So don't just say: `` Well, Jocelyn put it in for 13 seconds, so I'm going to put mine in for 13 seconds.''. It depends on your hair., But I wanted to count so you could also see about how long it takes me and so that you can see how the size that I have everything my heat. What have you. Now, if you're somebody that this drives crazy, you want your ends to not be if you want to use a curling iron, be my guest.. If you want to go in with your ends, after with a flat iron, be my guest., I could have wrapped this around that end, just a little bit more, so it doesn't too. And I can show you that right, now., So I'll get it as tight. As I can to that end. - And I will show you that. So nice clean pieces as clean as possible, especially because we're getting closer to the top. And I'm going to wrap this as close to the root. As I can and up to add some volume and not down low. And then I'm going to wrap this as close as my fingernails can go to the tip, and I can even there we go like so without burning myself., You get better at this.. If you want gloves it comes with gloves, if you do want to use an iron like this, I love this.. It'S seriously my favorite.. Don'T ever go like this. If you don't know where hair is because you definitely do not want to burn your finger, I do not advise at all and be very careful., So that curl is boss., It's so good.. So, like I said you can go a little less on the end or go in a little bit more, even with a curling wand, when you don't have an iron. Last one here. - And this is my hard side., This puppy over on this side. It does not like to cooperate., So I'm going to take this as close as I can to right there. And then we're going to just roll it on out. Hold that curl., Let it cool. Let that hairspray cool, especially on the front pieces. And let go. There. You go., So this one was held in a little closer.. This one was not you just decide what you want it to be.. The next thing is going to be: are you gen, Z or millennial or gen X, Which one are you Just kidding.? I don't know if you've seen it where they're like ,'', How you part your hair is what you are.'', So you can either part it down the center. You can part it on the side, but this is a good time to figure out how you want to part your hair, because if you part it over and you've curled it like this, the curls are going to be different.. So as of right now, I'm doing everything back.. So since I'm doing it back, if I were to part it down the middle as soon as I move this over to the side, it will look like I did it forward.. So that's why I want you to decide ahead of time, how you want your curls to be., So I'm going to do it down the center and then we go from here.. So these are good.. You can see what the section is. My hair is really thick up here.. Well, it's not thick hair.. So I have medium fine hair, but it's just bigger pieces right in here.. So I'm going to start right here in this front. And if that feels too fat it does it just feels way too wide. So I'm going to take a smaller piece. And how I like to do the front. Is I actually don't like to go all the way up to the root on my front piece when I'm at the front., So these other ones I did? But when I'm at the front, I like to be more down here., So I'm just going to put it in right at that level and hold it there. And also with this tapered one. If you want them to be bigger pieces, then you're going to hold them in like so.. It wasn't quite ready on that baby. Like that., And I'm going to go around and finish this side.. So I'm going to bring this one up to the route to get some volume get some lift. And then this is a really thick piece from that rope wrap method. So I want to make sure that that is ready to go before I pull it. Out. Question from the audience: ``: How do you get your curls to stay when you go to sleep ?'', So different people? I think it depends a lot on your hair type.. All right. Remember how I didn't go up to the root on the front. So I'm doing the same thing for this side.. This is my off side, and so I like to actually start at the front too for this first one just to help et it up for me too., But sometimes I actually will start in the back as well. On my off side., So it just depends. But back to the question: how do you get your curls to last through the night? Everybody does things a little bit differently.. I am a back sleeper, and so I don't really mess with my curls much, but a lot of people will when they go to lay down, especially with short hair people with ponytails they'll put their hair up into a high pony, and then that will help them. Keep their curls. They'll twist it up in there with the shape of their curls., And for me I actually just go to sleep., But one thing that you can do is just lift your hair up over the pillow. So it's just going along the pillow and not laying on it. And that's a way that you can get your hair to stay a little bit better as well.. So poof up put up those curls and then you're good to go.. And that will help it as well., But really and truly the difference it makes is getting that product in the hair before you blow dry.. That really is that icing on the cake that you need for sure. I'll. Do this baby right here and then I have a section right there in the back as well., So I'm going to keep this one back with it and I'll take this one back., Then one more piece. Oops. We're almost done.. The next part will be deciding how you want your ends to be., I'm actually going to grab a flat iron, real, quick and I'm going to flat iron these pieces down here, since I couldn't get them with a wand and then I'll come right back to you.. Okay, so I'm just going to come in with this flat iron here on the under part. And then, if you don't like these ends or you either want them straighter or you want them more curled. Let'S say I wanted it more curled. So then, I would go to the actual shape of this curl right here.. I would turn it at the shape that that is happening like that.. That'S where it's going to curl, so I would pull and keep it with that curl the shape that it currently is.. So on this one like that. Or you can do them straight.. I want this one straighter. And leave it at that., I'm going to continue going around to the underside of all of these and then we'll rock out this hairstyle. Heck yeah. Whoop-whoop. The next step that I'm going to do is I do not like going in with my hands, especially if they're dry, so I like putting an oil on them.. This oil, though, needs to be a really light. Oil., It can't be a thicker oil., So I go in with this one. It'S called Marula Oil from L'Ange.. I put it on my hand and then I come through my curls.. Some people like to completely brush out their curls.. It depends on the look that you're going for. I like to come in with my fingers and just create this look here.. This is piecing apart, so going in with this Marula Oil is going to bring them back together. And I just create more and more volume. As I go., I don't like how this is so. This is where I would take my flat iron and just straighten out those pieces., I'm going to go all the way around and style. Just like so.. Look at these curls. Each side of your hair is like your eyebrows. One side is a good kid on one side is a bad kid, so your curls try and stay different and you have to mess with them to try and get them back to the same.. So we'll see what happens: next. All right., So those pieces that I did up here - they've created some volume for me on top, because these pieces stayed flat., You could have kept these ones down which was going to make it so that you don't have any volume Up there. Do whichever one that you feel you want to do.. The next thing I do is I get some type of pomade., So I really want these ends to stay together, not get frizzy not get funky on me.. That'S a good curl right there, man. Yeah.. Okay, so I keep these two to act, the same., So I'm going to get my pomade and get this baby. On. Less is always more and if you need to add more later, you can. On my ends. It helps smooth it out. On the ends. And there we go. Okay, I'm going to go, look in a mirror, real, quick and make sure everything is copacetic, and then I will come on back. Now you see that I'm using this brush, But I'm not brushing hard.. I'M just making sure I don't have any frizzies, but it's a very soft touch that I do to it.. I'M not going down hard, nothing like that., It's just having a really soft touch with the brush itself.. Okay, I'm going to check on my hair and I'll, be right, back., All right! Here we go. We got this baby rocked out.. So this is those every day long lasting curls. Like so. Like so And we're done.. You want it to stay, Make sure you've set it with hairspray., Try and get a hairspray that isn't too strong a hold, because that's just going to make it heavy and weigh it down.. I also like to come in and spray up, underneath. Lift it up. Give it a little bit of a lift too and not just spraying it on top.. I really like to get up under there as well., So I hope you loved this tutorial.. I hope it totally helped you. Use that short hair for those long, lasting curls girl.. You can totally do it., Just because you have shorter hair doesn't mean that you have to skip out on some good stuff.. You might have to bring in a little bit of a flat iron to do that underneath side, but you're good to go.. You are just fine. All right., I'm Jocelyn McClellan with Fit Mission Makeup. You can find me on Instagram @ Jocelyn.McClellan or you can find me on Facebook at Fit Mission Makeup with Jocelyn McClellan. Thanks so much. We'll see ya. Bye,

Fit Mission Makeup Jocelyn McClellan: What are your tricks for making your curls last longer?

Jessica Smith: Hello pretty lady! Your hair always looks so amazing anyway you wear it. You make it look so easy. Thank you for sharing your videos.

Dr Biohack: I got the GHD curling iron and that's been pretty good but my hair is so long nothing really lasts too long!

Rara Avis: 'Subscribe to this channel, because it's helpful!' Why, yes, it is! I've been growing out a pixie cut (bad decision, don't ask) for almost a year now...after having had really long hair most of my adult life...and I literally have no idea what products/tools to use on bob length hair now. Although I never would have guessed, that medium length hair is so much work, lol. I seriously thought, chopping off my long tresses would make my life easier, lol. Oh poor, naive me

luv2garden1: I broke my arm and have to sleep on my back. I've never struggled with a back part before, but I slept on my side before. How are you avoiding the back part? I mean mine goes more than half way down the back of my head. I can't hold my arm up like you're doing, hopefully someday I can again. My hair is fine and thinning, unfortunately. I'm growing it back out from a horrible cut, where the hairdresser was scissor happy. It's a little past my shoulders.

Sally Wyman: I used the Glaze and Whip today and OMG!!!what a difference!

Tina Black: A satin pillow slip helps with your hair too. Bonus is good for your skin too.

Maria Yount: I'm sorry if you mentioned this and I missed it but...where did you get your curling wand from? And what kind is it? Thanks in advance ☺

Andrea Owens: Is your hair cut all the same length? Layers? And what is an undercut? I love your hair and want to tell my stylist what you have

Tani Francoeur: Looks great. How often do you wash your hair?

K. B: I'd just done this style, for return to work tomorrow after lockdown, thought be easier to manage, as dont want to wash and straighten every day, bit of mouse and hair oil after dry shampoo morning for bit of lift, hopefully get 2/3 days would be great, I've a bob like you but a quarter of your hair ;-(

Jooles Leder: WoW WoW and Woe Jocelyn such amazing and gorgeous curls

Jennifer Fauque: Whats the best alternative wand? Le Cinq is sold out.

Susan Greenlee: Gen X? No. Gen Z? No. Millennial? No. Can I rock this look as a Boomer?

Shine40: it is a Wig?
