Hi, I'm Rachel. I am a certified controlled chaos, stylist and educator and I'll be cutting Alana's hair. Today, as you can see, Alana's here's a little groan outs, a little bit triangular, it's starting to get a bit of bulk to it and what happens a lot of times when that happens? Is you kind of lose that soft sexy shape that the curls would prefer to have? I think that all curly curls would prefer to have so for Alana. We don't want to lose too much length. She likes the length where she's at will dust her ends to make sure they're healthy, but we're gon na give her some shape back, which is the most important thing for curls a precision haircut taking just a little bit off her ends. We'Re doing it in pretty big sections, because she has finer hair and we're also point cutting to keep that nice. Texture on the bottom. Take vertical section from that crown section that we've cut our layers in for our guide for our layers in all the way down to the nape. We'Re gon na make sure that there's plenty of curl left down here so that we don't get a skimpy little bottom to her hair Alana's hair is on the finer side, so I wan na make sure she's got a pretty good perimeter of hair. That'S gon na be a good base for her to work off of so for a long. It'S right around her occipital, maybe just a little bit lower, but for someone else you may be able to take a little bit more hair from there. So we are going to take this entire section with a good amount of tension and we are going to bring it 90 degrees out from the head and as we're sliding out, we are going to slide all the way to our bottom guide. All the way to our top guide, which means the only tension left, is here in the center, and this is the area we are going to cut. Remember you're, not looking for something dramatic. You are just looking for just enough and you see right there. I'Ve got a nice little C shape in there. There'S our controlled chaos see what that does is gon na alleviate some bulk through the center of her hair hidden inside. So we're not gon na see layers. We'Re just gon na see a removal of bulk, which is gon na, make all the difference in a curly hair cut. Yes, as we all know, as hairstylist we're going to start to lose some hair in this section, because we you know, go up, so we don't want to leave any gaps or holes right in this section and as you move around the head, you may find there's Less and less to cut that is oh okay, they'll see a very small doesn't have to be big, so we are going to take a mohawk section, incorporating both sides of the part, but very fine and we're going to be using our guide in the back is To establish our perimeter but leaving out the hair in the front so that we can deal with that at the end, this is a delicate area. We want to be careful with it when we cut our going through the Mohawk section. We want to create some forward movement, so we're going to make sure that our guide angles towards the front and as you've seen before we've over directed all of our sections towards the back, which creates a little forward movement towards the front. So we get a nice sexy hourglass shape and not a dandelion round poufy shape all right. Now we have our guide going through the front, so you're gon na follow that same basic pattern that we've been doing through the back, but Airy more on the side of caution and understanding. We want to be very careful not to leave any holes in the perimeter of the hair, so there's not a lot to cut. That'S okay, you want to know how to finish this haircut and make it look amazing. Go to controlled chaos, hair comb to find out more so thanks to Rachel, I'm back to myself again and now. We'Re gon na show you how this looks straight. Steal me: the controlled chaos haircut is so amazing. You can wear your hair out straight, which I love to shop people, sometimes that's the fun of having curls. We can look like completely different people by just blowing our hair out straight. Sometimes I know we all do it. So every other curly cutting technique that I've learned as a stylist could never be worn straight because there it's not done with precision. Control task is the only cutting technique that teaches how to cut curls with precision so that you can blow it out straight. You can have this super smooth. I like a little body. Even up close, you can see how perfectly blended all the layering is. There aren't any chunky little spots of holes where I just hacked off a curl that I didn't like everything, blends perfectly cut with precision and you can wear it in all different ways. You

1114kristin: My stylist does a "curl by curl" cut on me and she does it dry to see how the layers fall. Works every time.

Makeda Bullock Floyd: I love this!! Thank you!!! It's so hard to find people who know how to cut curly hair, especially my texture (4B/4C). I've never successfully given myself a haircut before, but I decided to give this a try and it came out sooo well!!! Took a while, but simple easy to follow and totally worked even though this girl's hair is finer and looser curls. I was even able to follow this cutting structure to create a pretty different hair shape/style.

Emilee Lynette: Looks amazing. Been trying to pay for a cut like that for 25 years. As easy as you make it look, I keep finding people who find it just as impossible!

Danielle W: This is interesting and looks nice curly at the end as well as straight. I JUST had my color done, hairs shoulder length, lowlights & highlights and needed my ends trimmed. The stylist had done my hair one time before and did a good job. That time was $200, this time was $200 also, except this time she point cut my ends when I told her explicitly, blunt ends only. I have fine, heavy density 3a hair and I have to have those ends with friends or the ends get tangled, curly up and can not hold the style i want. I have had the worst experiences in the past 3 yrs my hair has not gained length due to major mistakes by stylists. I sort of got a little lecture when I went back yesterday for a tiny fix on the ends due to the stylist now taking me back 8 months of growth. The top level who fixed it said I need to not try to learn their stylist terms to use to tell them how to cut my hair and that I should not tell them to NEVER point cut my hair bc curly hair can be point cut. She was okay with how she said it but started it with....not sure how to say this but....Seriously,...If I am paying $200 for right at shoulder length hair, I will expect them to know my hair, to be understanding & give a good quality cut and service,...period!

Kerryanne: Just curious as to why you would wet the hair if its curly? It doesn’t act the same way as dry and will turn out very different after her next wash. I know for my curly hair, you wet it and it goes basically totally straight, it seems much longer than it actually ends up being since I have ringlets. Not to mention the overall shape will appear very different. I’ve always had wet cuts and it ruins the curl pattern every time, I wish hairdressers would stop doing it this way.

Julia B: This was a great curly cut, came out better than my deva cut! ...but not sure how the "straightened" AKA gently-curled-at-the-end-classic-90's-layered look would differ from any other dry curly cut that has random different lengths; this end result also has several random lengths that just blend nicely in the gentle wave/curl? I'm saying this style could be successful with any type of curly cut.

Kate: Great controlled chaos cut. I love howyou don't have to cut much to add volume and remove the triangle shape.

Claudia Miller: Yowza! I wish more hairdressers had your understanding and skill with cutting curly hair. I have mid length-to-short old lady grey hair and NO ONE down here in Charlotte, NC has a clue….they never listen to me when I tell them how to approach my hair! I’ve lived with it for 70 years now and know it’s quirks pretty well…I also have a very long neck and usually come out of the salon steaming..because no matter what I say - I come out with a buzzed nape up to my ears! Even pictures don’t help of my “better” cuts….these guys and gals will pour over the shots and then do whatever they want. Don’t you gum balls understand what “fluffy” hair should look like?? It could be a $20 cut at Great Clips or an extravagant $250 event at Nordstrom’s….my hair never looks nice….it’s very depressing…thanks, everyone for listening to my crazy rant..Curly Heads Unite!!

Kaash Kaash: Very clear tutorial! Love love love your hair color!

Anne Welch: What are the benefits of a Controlled Chaos haircut vs. a dry cut?

K Hopps: The best haircut i ever had as a girl with curly hair was with it straightened. Every time i go to get my hair cut, the stylist wants to wash and cut but starts panicking when my hair is curling as they cut. They also happen to forget about shrinkage, so i go in for a trim and lose half my hair. At least when it was dry, they were able to visibly see the damaged/split ends that needed to go and i didnt lose a whole lot of length.

Amber V.: So, I tried this on my daughter. Seems to have done the job. Letting it air dry to see real results. Thanks for the video!

rockmom h: I went to a Deva hair salon, I need my hair fixed because I was a victim of a bad haircut at a previous salon. The new stylist dry cut my hair, not a lot was cut. I thought she was going even it after she washed it she didn't cut it instead put product in my hair and sent me on my way. Looks just like it did after she cut it. $75 and nothing done, I still have my bad haircut.

Ashley Young: This would have been a more valuable demo if her hair was actually curly afterward lol

Bayareamom9: Is this training offered anywhere in the East Bay Area, CA? I'm not a stylist, but I have the same hair type as the gal in this video. Her cut looked great when it was finished. Thanks for putting this video out there. Just sent it to my hairdresser (hope she doesn't mind). You did a great job!

librever68: I'm going to save the video for my new hairdresser; My hair was the same length, I had the same hairdresser for +10 years( He has outstanding reputation ok) but last time ruin it my curls cutting super short, after I told him I want the same thing at the video, he did mens hair cut on me; now I have to deal with my witch hair OMG. so be careful girls I don't want any body had the same awful experience; have to wait @ least 2 years to have my curls back at the right length.

L J: I don't have a certified stylist near me so I'm going to try this myself. Because I haven't had a stylist in decades who can cut my thick curly hair without making me look like mushroom I've had to cut my own hair. I checked your link for a free tutorial and couldn't find it. (?) Also wondering if the technique shown here works for all textures of curly hair? How do we determine what type we are? Thanks for the info!

Alej V: Can you show us how we can section/cut our own hair?

Sue O': I’ve gotten only 2good haircuts of my curly thin hair in my entire life. Have resorted to cutting it myself. Rachel where are you at?

Ari’s BagCheck: Guysssss, the thing is if she would cut it dry, all the layers would be looking weird when she straightens her hair.

Fairy Tale Access: Do you have referrals to people you've trained in other states? NH?

Tyson Passey: “From that crown section we put layers in” you said that but never mentioned it prior so how did you do that..?

Joy To The World: Im a curly, never straightened my hair, naar we don't all do it

Allison Jaye TV: This is not the only way to cut curly hair.. If you know your angles and how to cut proper layers and how to ppont cut the ends a curly hair cut is not difficult

YUMMY CUPCAKES: AMAZING

Jill B: I wish this girl would come to Scotland and cut my hair!

bounty42: Are there any stylists who can do this in the Atlanta area?

Island Family: Hi! Is there anywhere in Canada that does this cut/training?

STJ: I'm a stylist. Never point cut fine hair. Blunt cut only. Adds volume. Pointing reduces.

YUMMY CUPCAKES: AMAZING

MF: I can't fin anyone that can cut my hair properly! They all do it as itf my hair was straight! I want to learn to do it my self, do you think that's possibly?

Anne Brigando: Are there any Controlled Chaos certified stylists in the New Jersey area ?

sarina Licciardi: I would of liked to have see it natural curly ,Not  blow dried

renpaws: My hair was curly when I was a kid but I cut the curls off because people bullied me for it and now the curls won't come back, I want them backkk!

Dawn Rogers: I have curly frizzy hair and the only way I get my hair cut is if I straighten it. I have not found anyone that can cut my hair right curly so the only way I can wear my hair is straight. Ugh!

I know a lot of ladies swear by that technique, but I also hear of horror stories too. My stylist doesn't rock the C like this video, but I think I'll show it to her.
