Going from long hair to short hair for a female is a big decision. Whether your hair is medium length, a shorter bob, super long or a pixie, cutting your hair can make you feel like a totally different person. Today we are going to be exploring a few considerations to take into account when deciding if cutting your hair short is the right decision for you. Should i cut my hair short, that is the question that we ask ourselves, isn't it and before i get a comment in the comments section that just says: who cares it's just hair, do whatever the hell you want, it grows back whatever i just let you know That hair really does take a long time to grow back, and it is a bit of a big decision unless you're one of those people where your hair doesn't take a long time to grow back and then you and your abundance of privilege can go now. I have a client like this. You know who you are cheryl everyone. Let'S leave cheryl some hate in the comment section. I'M scared, i'm just kidding. Don'T leave cheryl hate, i love her, but for everyone else who is not cheryl, it really is and can be a pretty big decision, and it will affect how you feel about yourself and how you feel about your hair for quite a long time. Let'S talk about some considerations that you should have if you are thinking of going short, let's do it consideration number one is your face shape and your body shape aesthetically the most pleasing face, shape or the one that has the most amount of balance tends to be. The oval face shape so, theoretically, what we do in beauty is we try to get everyone's face, shape to have an oval face, shape illusion by doing a lot of tricks and techniques with hair and with makeup now i hate saying this: i hate putting this out There on the internet, because i really don't want someone to feel like because they don't have an oval face shape their face is not beautiful, but from my experience, having worked in this industry for 16 years, if you have a face shape, that is not an oval Face shape and you do something to your hair in terms of styling or in terms of cutting that doesn't try to give the oval illusion. The client almost always hates it. If you do something on a face, shape that doesn't theoretically suit that face shape nine times out of ten the client instinctively hates it, without even realizing why they hate it. They just know that the balance in the style is off. For some reason, i'm gon na show you this client as an example. This is literally the perfect example of this happening, so this beautiful client came in to get styled for a special event. I wasn't cutting. I was styling the hair and what we originally wanted to do was create a middle part. 70S curtain, bang with waves style of hair vibe. For her event, now, as you can see, her face, is a little bit on the rounder side. It'S not long or oblong or super oval. It is a little bit of a shorter face. Now she is stunning, absolutely stunning, but what happened is when i did that middle part and did the waves. I ended up giving her a lot of horizontal width and volume because of the waves and as soon as i parted it down the middle, i collapsed the volume at the top of the head. So what we ended up getting was a low volume, low vertical volume. High horizontal volume she already has a round face, we squashed her face and we widened it more, basically making her cheeks look, bigger and fuller, and her face looked shorter. So, even though the hair itself looked gorgeous like really really gorgeous the first thing she did when she looked in the mirror was go like hmm. I don't i don't know, i'm not it's. I don't know if i love this and i was like yeah same so. It'S not necessarily that someone with a round face can't pull that look off, but most times nine times out of ten. If you do something to a face, shape that doesn't balance the face, shape the client themselves or you yourself will notice right away that something is off. So in this case, we go into a deep side part, because what that does is it gives tons of vertical height and volume at the top and it elongates the face. So it takes the face from looking short to looking more oval. So, does that mean that someone with, for example, a round face shape, can't have a short haircut? It absolutely does not mean that all i am saying when i tell you to keep your face. Shape in consideration is to look at how to tweak the haircut so that you like it in the end on your face shape. If you look at tons of photos of girls with oblong faces and you're. Looking at all these amazing haircuts and you have a round face shape and your stylist gives you that exact haircut, you will very likely not like it on your face, because your face isn't the same shape as that client's face. So if you have a round face shape, you can do little tweaks, you can leave one to two inches below the chin or if you have a chin or a jawline that isn't strong or you have extra weight in here. If you want to get a bob. Just make sure the bob is under that line, because if you put a strong line right here in the jawline and in the chin, your eye is going to be drawn to that area right away and that area is going to stand out. Another thing you can do, for example: if you have a round face, is you can add tons of height here by doing a really deep side part? So when you get your hair cut, you could tell your stylus. I want it two inches under the chin, because i have a rounder face and i really want it cut in a way that i can put it into a deep side part. So i can get more lift and height at the top. That type of communication and really knowing what path you want to take with your short haircut. What style you really want is going to help you, like your haircut, a lot more than if you just go in without kind of realizing or recognizing. What'S going to work for your face, shape in particular now this also really really applies to body shape. Whenever i have like a beautiful curvy client, i find that they love having longer curvier hair with more movement, because that type of hair, the fullness, the height the volume that really suits their curvy body, because it creates balance it's cohesive. Whereas i also notice that when i have very petite short small girls, they often times gravitate towards those nice strong little bobs that are short and they're, not too much volume, they're, not too high they're, just a petite haircut. It'S a little itty bitty bit of hair on a little itty, bitty body. I know this can feel really complicated and you can think like i don't know like how am i supposed to know that i need someone to help me. You do know - and you know instinctively because you have had haircuts. I am certain that you have hated - try to figure out why you've hated them. Try to look at the haircut and look at your face, shape, look at your body and figure out why it didn't work. Something was off balance and you knew it. You have the instinct to know it. You just have to figure out why it was that way. So that you don't repeat the same mistakes, the biggest piece of advice that i can give you is to find a celebrity that has your vibe. So a celebrity that has a similar body type a similar face shape, maybe even a similar style. Aesthetic similar hair, color, similar skin color and look at their hair throughout the years find your celebrity look alike analyze their styles throughout the year. And then you will know pretty instinctively if something's going to work on you and if it's something that you want to try out consideration. Number two is your hair texture. Your hair texture has so much to do with whether or not a style will even work on you at all. Sometimes we really want a style. We really really do, but we don't have the texture for it. I have always wanted really long, mermaid stripper hair. I do i want to be a mermaid stripper swimming around in my locks for days, but i don't have the hair texture for that. My hair is fine. My hair is thin. There'S thinning areas when my hair gets past here, which is a collarbone area, it starts to look chewed up. It starts to look really thin. It starts to become unstylable, it doesn't work for me, whereas my sister who's, the complete opposite, has very thick curly, dense hair. She wanted to rock a bob a few years ago. She wanted a really kind of blunt slick, bob that was edgy with undercut sections, but because her hair was so thick and dense, it didn't work for her. It becomes triangular, it becomes unruly unbalanced. She wanted. This cut so badly that she ended up getting it chemically straightened which worked for a little bit, but then, when it grew out, it was like a complete disaster, because then she had these really curly kinky roots. With this really straight kind of thin looking end and she had to grow, all of that, like the textures were totally opposite. The haircut didn't work and she ended up really regretting that haircut. You know she liked it for, like a month hated it for like a year. So you have to think is my texture going to work the shorter, the hair, the more volume you get, because you end up reducing weight. If you have hair that needs weight to sit nicely think carefully before cutting it short because you're going to end up having a lot of work when it comes to styling, and that brings me to consideration number three, which is styling and lifestyle. If you have long hair - and you never wear it down and you never style it just because you cut all your hair off you're, suddenly not going to be able to style it. There are hair lengths that have to be styled every day to look good. Pixie cuts. Are these this type of cut? If you have a pixie cut, you don't style it unless you're very seriously lucky and just have great hair texture that doesn't need to be styled. But that's like one in 50., it's going to look bad and chin length, bobs and shorter. If you don't style those every day, they do not look good. They are styles that need to be styled, so you have to think about your lifestyle. Are you the type of person that wakes up in the morning? It'S rush rush right? You have to get your kids to school, you have to get to work. Do you have 45 minutes to blow out your hair and add some waves and some tassel and texture spray and do all of those things? Are you the type of girl that wants to wear a messy bun nine times out of ten? Another thing you want to think about is: if you wear your hair up all the time it could be for two reasons: it could be because you can't be bothered to style it. You don't have the patience which is fair or it could be because you love the way your hair looks when it's up. That is also me. I really like how i look with my hair up, and that is why i'm always inclined to wear my hair up. You know i really only wear my hair down when i shoot my youtube videos once or twice a week for real. I wear it up every other time and even when i'm done shooting the video. I turn the camera off and i put my hair up when my hair is too short to go up. I really do feel less pretty. So if you are that type of person, it doesn't mean that you need super long hair, but you, you might want to think about cutting your hair to a length like here where, when you style it, you look so cute and posh and very styled. But if you want to ignore it like me today, then you also can consideration number four is: will it suit your personal style every once in a while? I would get a client that would bring me a style inspo, and it was a style that would absolutely not suit them, and i knew this because i knew them and how they dress and their accessories and how they do their makeup. Sometimes we can get so inspired by like the hashtag influencer world and we'll see a girl and be like her. I need to be her. I love her, i'm so inspired by her content, but then, when you actually look at her styling she's, not your style. I had this with another influencer, i'm gon na pop some pictures of her on here. I think this girl is so pretty. I literally want to be this girl. I just think she's beautiful. I love her style. I love her tattoos. I love how she dresses and i love her hair, but then, when i think about it, she's blonde, i have like super dark hair. She is very fair. Skinned, i am not she's covered in tattoos, i'm not i'm a mom. I have two kids. I am not edgy at all. I'M pretty girly but like in a this girl's girly too, but in like a rockery way. I'M not i'm just not so that haircut on me will look nothing. Nothing like that haircut on that girl, because i don't look like her for one, because i don't dress like her, and i am not even her age like i'm, probably way way way older than her. So when you are looking for inspo make sure you're looking for inspo in the same style as you, because that actually will make a huge difference i'll catch you guys in the next one bye,

Black Coffee: Tip for fine hair: Yes, you can keep it long but *don't* get layers. A blunt cut makes your hair look a million times better. If you must have a few layers, keep them below shoulder length. A blunt cut will give the impression that you have more volume. I learned this after years of stylists insisting on giving me layers that always made my hair look bitty and straggly. Blunt cut all the way.

Lisa Silver: Great video Gabi. This really helped me decide not to get a shorter hair cut because I’m that high ponytail girl that’s too lazy to do my hair and workout everyday so it’s a perfect to not have to wash my hair. Do you have a video on easy and stylish up styles? Thank you

Kelly E.: This video is actually super informative. I usually don't wear my hair up because I feel like it looks prettier down since I have a weird headshape. Also hair texture makes a huge difference. I've tried to do pinterest hairstyles made by girls with caucasian hair on my east asian textured hair and it was a real expectation vs reality experience for me lmao. My stiff hair hates most hairstyles, but it does well with heat. I can curl my hair and it'll still look great after being slept on.

Jill B: Hi Gabi. I've just discovered this episode and it resonates so much with me. I really don't know what I suit. I keep thinking I should cut quite a lot off as I have similar hair texture to you and I am fairly mature in years now. But, my friends all tell me that I still have lovely hair and should keep it long for as long as I can. I've told them to tell me the truth as I can take it so I know that in their eyes it's still fine. Ironically 'Fine' because I've noticed how much thinner it's getting. My friend surprised me who does my hair when she didn't want to cut loads off the first time I went to her. She wanted to do a balayage instead! I wish I could try on loads of wigs to see what might really suit me now. I am 5' 11 btw with an oval shaped face (I think) and I'm quite slim but a bit top heavy. Do you have any advice? I do have it up a lot and I think it's because I'm low maintenance. Shorter styles always need a lot of work! x

Notperfecttonya: Wow… I’m still processing all this wisdom!! You answered a lot of questions I never knew I had, validated what I keep saying about my own hair length, and nailed it so hard about styling. I gained a lot of weight a couple of years ago and found that the styles I was wearing just made me look worse. I went long and wavy and loved it (with wigs!). I won’t wear my shorter ones that hit at chin level and keep having to justify myself to others who previously had their favorites I wore. I had one style that was my “signature” look. But no no no now. I hope I’m able to lose the weight and lose all the fat around the jaw and neck. Maybe I can wear that beauty again! I also really like how I look in my natural hair when it is up. I feel so understood now!! Wish you were my stylist!!! I don’t have one anymore. I am started to grow back some of my own thinning hair with the help of an outstanding endocrinologist and I’m stuck trying to figure out what to do with my natural hair while it’s “recovering”. I have always had fine hair. Now it’s thin. But I’m also excited a lot of it is growing back. Anyway, I’m living for your channel!! I love it. So happy I found you!!

Nerolia_Gaming: Thank you, Gabi, great explanation! My hair is fine, straight, healthy and thus too slick and smooth, no texture at all, means no volume, no good fixation, no "bounce". Though the density is high, so when I had it long and braided it, my braid would be very thick! Today I'm thinking of getting a short haircut (not to a pixie level! lil longer to allow me style it in a different ways). And if I'm getting it right from your video, that would be good for my hair!

CheekyLibraryon: I'm in my late 50s, thinking about what I want to do with my hair... just stumbled upon your channel and it is literally GOLD. Your videos are -full- of amazing insight and tips. Thank you so very much! Also- you are such a pretty woman. Loving your content! New sub.

Jessie Borrell: Texture definitely matters and can be both a good thing and bad thing in my experience. I've had super, super short hair (even shorter than my profile pic, which was a couple months after I chopped it) and also super long hair and I like different things about having both extremes. My hair is dense and pretty thick and wavy and will get some curlier ringlets as it gets longer. Having it super short was easy for me. I could quickly blow dry it and because it was so short, it'd stay straight with no issues. But most of the time I just air dried it and it looked great like that, too. I would stick a little bit of pomade or product in it to help give it some control, especially as it got a bit longer and it had more of a tendency to want to expand. I'm finally at a short bob length but I have some shorter pieces that are still growing out and I actually prefer to wear my natural texture over blowdrying and straightening it. The wave/curl in my hair helps hide some of the uneven lengths and also keeps my hair from sitting super close and tight to my head and looking really round. When I wear it straight I feel like it looks like a bowl cut! lol When my hair is shoulder length or longer, it's mostly easy to deal with and I like that I have the choice to wear it straight or wavy/curly, or wear it up. The only thing that I really dislike is how long it takes to dry and also how if I go through the bother of straightening it, it doesn't tend to last long because I live in a very humid/rainy climate

Lpg 8: Oh girl, I heard what you said and had to comment. My hair broke off after excessive bleaching and now I am anxiously waiting for it to grow, not much you can do but wait. So, you are right, it is a big decision and no it's not just hair and it will grow back.

Sweet Stuff: This is supremely helpful, thank you so much! That side by side picture you showed while you were talking about how to cut the hair when you have fullness under the chin was eye-opening! I took a screen shot to show my hair dresser! I think I need a good 2 inches taken off my ends to bring it up to collarbone length because I've lost a lot of hair the last 1-2 years, probably due to a combination of menopause and stress from working in healthcare during covid. I've always had fine hair, but a lot of it... not anymore sadly. =( At least I know now not to layer the sides past my chin! I feel like I have a round face, although it measures more lengthwise than it does widthwise, so maybe oval? Anyways, I know I look better with some volume on top, but with keeping the sides longer for my double chin, how do I accomplish that? I was thinking some light layering to the ends of the hair growing from the top of my head for volume? If so, how/where? I currently part it slightly to the side. I'm not crazy about bangs because I can't stand them in my eyes, I don't have much hair to have anything but wispy ones, and I don't have time to keep them trimmed professionally. Help!

Carolyn Fitzgerald: I have curly hair and a round face and have watched the pixies, lobs, and bobs coming in over the past couple years. I've been tempted to go pixie once again. When French Kiss came out, I fell in love with Meg Ryan's hair, and found a stylist who gave me that hair cut(by coincidence she just did it for her daughter whose hair was curly like mine) It was absolutely amazing. The maintenance was great bc I could was and go, but the growing out process took a long time. I wouldn't do it again becuase of the time it took to grow out, but also I would have to find someone I could trust who knows curly hair well enough to do it. I'm a little a traumatized bc of what people have done over the years to my hair. Love your videos. Your honesty and openness about wigs, your help with understanding and using box dye, and discussing your own hair struggles and succeses gives people confidence to address the issues or insecurities they may be facing. Thank you for sharing

Patricia Goodwin: This helped me so much, thank you, I just subscribed, nice to meet you Gabi!! I thought about getting a bob, it's been long for about 6 years with trims in between. I've been wearing it in a ponytail but would prefer to wear it down with an easy style. Now I know exactly what I want to do, a cut just below my chin for an easy summer style. My hair has natural waves and I'm lazy LOL, if I let it air dry it will be wavy/thick or if I put it in a bun while it's wet, after a couple of hours it will have spiral curls when I take it out of the bun, yep lazy girl style haaaaa. My face shape is oval, I've had bobs in the past, it didn't look quite right, now I know why so thank you again! Have a great week!

Johanna JF: Tip, look at old pictures of yourself with different hair lengths. I've had a bob, shoulder length and very long hair throughout my life. I rated how well the length suited me as well as how comfortable I was with it. I could then conclude that collarbone length suits me best when straightened but naturally my hair is wavy so a few extra centimeters below the collarbone would give me the ideal length for my go-to everyday wavy hairstyle. I went from waist-length hair to shorter than I've had for many years and it was amazing, it had more volume, the waves looked nicer and it was easier to dry.

Natasha Mumford: That was really interesting and excellent advice. It must be extremely annoying when you get clients who just simply are not in touch with reality and therefore look for unrealistic style ideas. It is so important to take into face shape, body shape and skin colour/tone. I look forward to your next post!

Ki: Loved this video, so helpful. I am a petite girl and when I had short hair I felt more slick and cohesive I couldn’t figure out why but you explained it well! I love the idea of big love curly hair which I have but I often do feel somewhat drowned or swallowed by it, thinking to go back to short and experiment with Colour instead

debra raby: A fabulous and very informative video, thank you Gabi. I think that you are the epitome of a 'cool girl', wished I looked like you and had your gorgeous hair. That said I try and be grateful for what I have, even if my thin, fine hair is far from ideal. Since watching your videos I have definitely picked up some style tips and my hair is improving, thank you again.

Lara Mirinjian: This was REALLY helpful! Wow, explains a lot when I was a kid LOL. Thank you Gabi, you're amazing!

daianfish: This video finally helped me understand why I don't like long hair on me! I always cut it short and love it, but when I want to try something new I'll try growing it out again. My hair is fine and gets weighed down when it gets past my shoulders, so that's usually when I get fed up and cut it haha Maybe I can stop wasting my time growing it out between cuts now!

Eve Beat: Love this video. I was thinking of going short but your tip about needing weight for the haircut to look right made sense for me. My hair is kind of curly wavy and if I cut it short, it’s going to look like poofy. Thanks.

Alinka: Thank you for this video, Gaby! It’s so helpful! As a person with wavy hair, that is so soft and on the finer side, and also grows very slowly, I have had so many haircut disasters. Even when the cut is slightly off, it changes the balance of my face and also changes the look of my my thin and tall body shape and then it takes so long to grow it back till the length when it balances out the general look. On the other hand, it’s a bit similar situation with your hair length - once it gets to some length point, it becomes looking unhealthy, thin and hard to manage. So, a right haircut is so important to keep the balance between the length and healthy look and gE real body shape and my style. I wish there were more hairstylists who understand all these nuances.

Rosani Lebron: Loved this video! I love Boho and flowy styles. My personal aesthetic is Boho with a classic twist. A few months ago I decided to have a shag. I'm so in love with it! My friends told me that it is THE hair style for me. I didn't had a hair style for almost 7 years and it was a well thought decision. My hair was waist length, now is mid back.

Christina Brooks: This was one of the most informative videos about hair styles I've seen in a very long time. It was perfectly timed because I have long hair and was thinking about whether to cut it. Your comment about, maybe you wear your hair up NOT because you're lazy but because you LIKE the way it looks up, really resonated with me. It was like a lightbulb turned on. I do like wearing my hair up!

mira sobson: Omg the chin thing totally happened to me when I cut my hair too short. I never even noticed my chin had a little extra weight/saggy skin until the haircut highlighted it! Also, it was super annoying not to be able to do a top bun .. I totally did not think about that beforehand. ‍♀️ Great video!

A A: Great advice! In my 30’s I had long hair and one day decided to chop it short. Immediately regretted it when I realized how long it was going to take to grow back. Now, in my 50’s I keep it long. It is my last chance.

Kristina Werner: I'm pregnant and have been tempted to cut my long hair. This reminds me that my normal petite frame (I'm tall but small featured) is going to regret that immediately with the pregnancy and then postpartum curves that are starting and will continue to develop. I did pixie and bob for years and loved it but struggle with pictures when I have extra weight from babies. Keeping it long now!

Lauren Jen: This was the perfect summary and made SO much sense!! I have long hair and was considering a big chop. Will have to consider your points carefully!!

juanita alarcon: Love your vids, this one especially! I’m 55 and been thinking about going from long hair to a shoulder length look. I have an oval shape face but it’s BIG. Lol and I don’t have time to style my hair, so live in a pony or bun. With your advice, I will go with a med length style with long layers for a bit of a change & more volume, while avoiding regret.

Lisamarie Martinez: This tip is perfect timing, I'm getting my haircut on Friday, and was debating on shorter straight, or medium length with layers. Just not sure what face shape I have.

Ivana Pešić: My hair is super long now and it looks good and healthy but boy, oh boy I can't wait to cut it. I tend to do long bob for summer and until next summer just let it grow wild and free (and in that period my hair goes super long cause it grows super fast). All that aside, your video is super informative and helpfull for people wanting to experimente with something new.

Natasha Owens: Yes Girl! Finally a stylist that says short hair is work!!! I love short hair but I know it's gonna cause me work. I only chop it off when I'm ready to work for the look!

Colleen Joudrey: I have very thick, heavy, wavy and mildly textured hair. The last 5-8 years I found myself tired of paying $80 for bad haircuts that always had super bulky ends so my husband now cuts it for me. It's easier to deal with a not-great haircut that's free.

S S: Love the way you explain everything in so much detail, thank you for being so real and so helpful! P.S. your gorgeous and seem like you have the sweetest and kindest personality!

Simply Me: Very nice video, thank you! I have fine, straight, long hair, an oblong-ish face and I never style my hair, I'm just too lazy for that. The struggle is real. I don't consider cutting my hair short but I would love to know 2-3 very easy every day styles that I can do and don't feel bored looking at myself in the mirror every single day with the same just straight, hanging hair.

Sherri H.: I've never been able to part my hair in the middle. It looks good on some people, but not me. My face is square, and I like volume on the top, and with my fine hair, I can't do that with a middle part. It was amazing the difference it made to move her part to the side. You are right, the hair itself was beautiful, but it didn't flatter her until you moved the part, and then it was fantastic.

Rutuja Dicholkar: Came across this video right after a short haircut that I regret I have curvy body, voluminous curly hair and I also have a round face shape with chubby cheeks. I'm definitely sticking to medium to long hair.

C H: Thanks for the video! I took a screenshot of your "chin length bob for thin hair" video to my stylist. I lost hair for weeks after getting over Cov-19. The shortness at the back was ok but I need the front to grow now to camouflage my under-chin Turkey neck wrinkles (age and weight loss). Your picture of the blonde woman with chin length cut was very informative.

Allie Firebaugh: The most helpful thing on the internet for considering short vs. long hair! Thank youuuu.

Tara Lion: As someone who cut my hair weeks before I watched this, can confirm I think it looks okay, but I’m upset at how hard it is to put up. I have coarse, almost dense hair, and it’s in a layered lob. Idek why I did it like that since I wear my hair up all the time but oh well. My hair grows barely 1cm per month so I’ll just have to wait it out, and like it whether I want to or not lol

Haphazard Heather: I convinced myself I could pull off a side shave and I definitely could not. I was so caught up in that fantasy style of what I wanted to look like and not working with what I actually had going on. I liked it for less than 24 hours. It's back to my chin now and I can't wait until I can even everything out again and have a haircut that's not just trying to hide this big hole.

Marilyn Garrett: Hi Gabi. I love your channel! My sister is a salon owner (and definitely a hair snob) in a fancy suburb of Boston, and I totally send her your videos! #1 question-where did you get that amazing green top? #2-any advice on how to deal with the texture/damage/change to gray hair. I'm 46, and I always got compliments on my thick dark brown hair. Now it is mostly gray, frizzy, slightly wavy and delicate and dry.. I'm always looking for more advice. Thanks!

D V: You're so true to yourself and have the most fantastic way to relay that to others. Thank you for helping us - your fans - to be true to ourselves and therefore feeling confident. - so my dreams of super short bob are OVER and done with... thank goodness :-)

Jenny S: We hate you, Cheryl Just kidding! Keep living your best hair life ❤️ I chopped my hair into a textured bob. Best thing I've ever done. It's been over a year and no regrets. I don't think I'll ever have long hair again lol.

Silken: what a great video! lifestyle and convenience are the biggest reason I wear my hair long. I love bobs and pixies. But having fine textured, very straight hair that needs a lot of styling to look presentable with those cuts...it's a no no for me. The biggest misconception is that short hair is easier and more practical. In what world? It takes two seconds to put long hair in a ponytail or just put it up. When my hair was short I needed to wash it every day, blow-dry it forever, use a ton of product etc.

Loani Castillo: I have curly hair and others made me go for haircuts that needed you to be super straight. This is a super useful video I needed to watch when I was younger I did not even know I was curly. My hair is somehow fine density and texture and I made layers and I had to cut them little by little.

Vanessa: Thank you! You just saved my long thick wavy hair from getting chopped off for the summer. I'll just keep throwing it up in a ponytail and embrace it. ❤

Jaimeheartbeat: I loved this, thank you. I am so committed to my hair stylist, she knows me so well and often tells me no on styles and I always love my hair after she has done it.

Anita Kusler: I was absolutely meant to find this video! I’ve been going back & forth deciding, do I wanna get my hair cut or do I wanna keep it longer, so I can wear it up in a bun, as I always do?? I never wear it down long, as I’m 67, and my hair worn down, gets me too hot, on my neck & I am always sweating with it down! Unless, I cut it in a short bob or a pixie! But, the bob I wanted now, is the very straight, blunt style. My hair is really thick & naturally wavy!! Like your sister, I’d probably regret it after getting it cut, because I’d have to wash & style it, all the time! And…get it cut every 5 weeks, or so! Your video has helped me to be more realistic in regards to cutting my hair, now! Thanks so much for your advice!

Dalal Jaz: I have the same face shape as Iman and almost similar features and Ive always liked my hair to be parted in the middle and whenever I try to change it to a part on the side I feel strange, now I know why it’s because as you said the middle part gives me more horizontal dimension and balances my face while the part on the side elongate it.

Veronika Be: Hi Gabi! I am a curvy girl with a round face and I always want to have long hair. But due to it being so thin and fine I always have to cut it to have a blunt baseline. Now I am thinking about getting a blunt bob that stops right above the shoulders, so not too short. Do you think as a curvy girl I could wear that haircut?

민니Minnie: You talk so much sense. You said everything I have always thought but never articulated as well. I recently got my haircut really short. The hairdresser was inexperienced with thick hair like mine and didn’t get the assignment. What a disaster. Thankfully my hair grows a super speed so I can live with it until it’s somewhat longer. Also agree with your comments about style and having appropriate inspiration for your lifestyle. Everything that looks good on someone else is not necessarily going to look the same on you.

Delinda Henderson: Yes I’ve had really long hair for years and my stylist suggested layers. I was bored and so I tried that but with my fine hair but then it suddenly looked much thinner and straggly especially in the back. Now it’s shorter about mid back length maybe even shorter with fewer layers now and blunt cut on the ends and it looks 10 times better! Don’t do heavy layers on fine thick hair! It took a year or so for it to look better and I am still not done growing out all the layers! I won’t go short! Much happier with at least mid length or longer hair!

K: I relate to Sheryl Grew my hair from long bob to hip length in three years, then got it cut back short into a bob cut again!

Yvonne steernb: Thank you for this great great video, it’s really an eyeopener. I hope millions of people will watch it and be happy with their hair. You are so charming and explained everything so well, that I will finally cut my hair off for some inches. Big step for me, but I am sure now that it will suite me better.

loovider: This video is so helpful. Thank you for it! <3

Jennifer H: My mind is . Thank you for putting this info out ❤️ I always say that I can’t seem to communicate to my hairstylists, little things like this help me understand what I want/ what it is I actually like!

audrey jackson: You just talked me out of cutting my hair short again, I have the same length and texture as you and lately I’ve been preferring it up why because I suit it. So cheers for that. ❤️great video bang on target.

Lucy Lang: I think I have an oval face, my look alike celeb is liv Tyler, but the haircut I hated was like super super short pixie, it just emphasised any fat I had under my chin, which doesn’t go away entirely unless I’m like a size 8 and don’t eat a whole lot, like I’m talking living on salads, and I have d cups and an hourglass figure so it just seemed to make me look more bulky. Thought I would look cute but hated it, grown it out for 6 years and now I have nice long hair down to my waist

S Kades: FANTASTIC advice!!! You are a hair GURU!! it's so hard for most of us to appreciate our own unique beauty - we should and be our best self!!! I totally agree with all of your advice. Recently, I went to a new hairdresser....I stated ahead of time, my hair is thick and has a wave, it will shrink when cut, and I do not want it angled to the front. He must have had an off day, did a super deep angle cut, WAY TO SHORT in the Back!!!! This is the worst cut ever....and I have an oval face! He *did not consider texture....or my style*. I am not a precise angle cut type......and I could not wear it up for 6 months!!! It keeps falling forward, even when I style it, its top heavy and will not lay well. I've never had this problem before, as I am lucky to have nice healthy hair...... So people LISTEN TO THIS WOMAN, and TAKE HER ADVICE! Hair is a big deal, because it's part of your personality!! Thank you very much Glam Girl!! Brightest Blessings to you!!!

Rasha Sharif: I am grateful that my hair do grow fast ( even my stylist will say : your hair grow it is like two months) but, but love long hair and ponytails but got a short bob in the back and some long sides like a couple of days before this was out. I wish I googled and did some research before the cut. I was traumatized and felt less pretty. Tried clips in extensions, wigs but ended up trying to accept and own the new hair cut and let it grow. Short hair in the back is perfect for summer while I work out and swim but I am planning to grow some 8 inches by the end of the year. I appreciate you Gabi and i wish my hair stylist disagreed with me or advised me to keep some length I has 18 inches hair long. She usually will argue and ask if am sure and even show with the comb how much it will be cut, Usually I keep asking to keep the length, did not say it once and I regret it. Again, I will keep in mind to keep my hair in a specific length from now on.

74sleen: Love this video! My hair is the longest it’s been in a long time. I’ve debated on cutting it short. Your video made me think of lots of things!! Thank you!! p.s. can you be my hair stylist?!

Barb Knits and Crochets: Well, it IS just hair. Mine goes from mid-back to chin length with bangs every few years. I have fine wavy hair and I go between layers and a blunt cut too. I have no problem growing out a "difficult" cut.

Amber Klein: I love the information you included in this. It was like getting a real education. Thank you.

S R: This is the most helpful hair video I've ever seen on youtube.

Kim Gloslee: Love love love your content! I have thin hair and you are one of the reasons I chopped it into a lob and love it. I too love to wear my hair up most of the time and this is the perfect length to to do a few cute styles. Do you have favorite clips? I have a hard time finding clips that really secure my hair due to how thin it is. I'm Canadian too so I have purchased a few of the things you have recommended. Thank you for keeping it real and providing such great info at the same time. ❤

Maryland Mermaid: I’m nearly 75. I haven’t been able to determine my face shape. I always felt it was round, but I’ve lost 50 lbs and it’s changed. My hair is wavy and fine. It was always blunt cut and the longest was to my shoulders. Now I grew it out to my collarbone. Am I too old to wear longer hair? Blunt cut parted on side, no bangs but a couple layers in front. I do wear it up, but it’s so fine a bun or ponytail is so small. Any ideas?

Terri Rojas: this was enlightening. great video. i'm hating my hair right now. my hair has always been fine, but now it's also thinning - I'm 46. i'm growing out a mistake pixie. i've had non-mistake pixies before and after watching this, i now know the difference why. you're right about the putting it up. my hair is a jaw/chin length and doing a bang up job accentuating my double chin. it has the illusion of an a-line but the front and sides still have so many shorter layers. it's still to short even for a mulan pony in the back. it needs to be styled every day, which i actually don't mind, but i'm tired of losing loads of hair in the shower. ugh. ugh.

Derrick Jennifer Watkins: Lots of good tips here, Gabi!

Marilyn Bruckman: This is the best video I have found discussing how to choose a hair style and length. It has helped me decide if I want to shorten my hair. Perhaps I'll try a few inches off first to see how that looks and feels.

Blayne: Great video that I've recommended to my daughter for her wedding this fall. Thanks!

Be Strong and Love Yourself: Very useful video! Thank you so much! I personally don’t like to cut my hair, I only do it to keep it healthy. But if I want to change a style, I get a simple wig on Amazon, play with it for a day and get back to normal haha

LB CCS: Sherral, hopefully your hair growth never changes. It can change for different reasons: diet, stress, moving, washing hair with different products, different water, medications, vitamins, a trip; yes all of these can affect your skin, nails, and hair.

geniusjen78: SUCH GOOD TRUTH! Your personality and style have just as much effect as your face and body shape will on a hair cut. There are lots of styles I admire but know I cannot pull off!

Annalisa Nunez: I totally agree with the last point you made... Look for inspiration that is actually YOU. It can be easy to fall I love someone's style and image but if it's not you then obviously it won't work. Or maybe not so obviously. And that goes back to really figuring out who you are and what you like. Great point.

Monica: I was never able to decide what's my face shape. It's definitely asymmetrical I asked other people, some say it's round-ish, others say it's rectangular, other say it's both rectangular and round so no idea what haircut would suit me better. I just keep it one lenght. I have wavy hair, I think fine, but decent density. ‍♀️ So complicated.

Comments: If you have think hair, you can have a cute bob if you round brush straighten it. Your stylist just has to know how to layer underneath and on the outside to turn the triangle into an oval. However, very few stylists know how to do this.

Yasmin: This is a quality video. Straight to the point and very clear Thanks!

Grace Campbell: You are the best. So honestly truthful. You are making my decision so much easier. ❤️

Joyful Paradise: This was sooooo helpful. Thanks for the tips. U nailed it.

liseann23: Thanks so much for this video! I only wish I saw it before I chopped off 3 inches this weekend - I would’ve known it wasn’t a good idea! ‍♀️

Xana K.: I have the same struggle. Long hair suits me way better but my hair texture is fine and when it gets longer it looks ratty at the ends :( And I don't even dye it or use too much heat or anything! I also have an alternative rocker type of style WITH feminine qualities, so... think rockabilly. Feminine but also edgy. I don't want a Bob though, im tired of them :( :( :( :(

Elizabeth Dickerson: It’s actual nice that your not afraid to actual say the truth. You just explained this better than anyone else I have ever watched. Now a days people are so scared to just say the truth and be truthful vs trying to be politically correct. Weight does matter when it comes to hair. Our Age is a big factor when choosing our cuts and styles. Older women can rock pink and orange vibes, absolutely. Just keep in mind the style needs to fit your own vibe ❤️

Brittany Storey: I just chopped my hair in January and before when it was long it seemed to grow so fast but now it’s may and it hasn’t even grown an inch :( I just wanted healthier hair. But man I dislike the short hair.

PRINCESS STELLA: Another video and content that is worth watching. I'm a 5ft9 tall and I have a square face shape, big forehead, slim figure and 2B hair. The good thing about being a tall and slim girl is that we can wear any hair length from short to long as long as it's not too short (no hair) or even too long (tailbone length). In my case, textured bobs that are 2 inches long from my chin works really well but as my hair grows longer I need to add some layering on it. U shaped haircut is good when my hair passes around the armpit length but since my hair now is beyond armpit length, then I go on a V shaped haircut and at first I hate it because the haircut looks severe but as my hair grows more longer from my chest to waistlength, I ended up loving it because of the movement that the face framing layeres does to my square face. I also used to have a pixie cut and block cut 4 years ago but I don't know if I should attempt to get that cut again since most of my friends notice that it makes my head look smaller and my body appears broad and larger, especially on the shoulder area and midsection which I agree because I'm tall.

Leilamicro: I agree : i cut my hair a few months ago. i always had super long mermaid thick hair. I regretted it a lotttttt OMG. I looked older and i was so sad. 6 months after i feel better and i am looking forward to have it very long again

EILEEN Kilworth: Hi Gabi, I'm 64 & I'm noticing my jowls so much more. I have hair straight hair that is shoulder length. My hair is naturally wavy but straighten it & wear centre parting. I have an oval face shape but the jowls are making it wiser now...any help please

Melissa D: This was so informative!! Now I just need my hair to hurry up and grow a few more inches past my chin.

Diadem Glow: Hey Gabi, love your vidoes, love that assertion “ you DO know”. My hair thinned from Covid, do you have any recommendations for a nice human hair wig? Im just sort of entertaining that option.

Catherine Leslie-Faye: I cut my hair short when I feel the need for it... I have more important things to worry about than if other people think my haircut looks good on me or not. My hair is nobody's business but my own.

Sunny Girl: Thanks for this video! You made some very good points - I do the same thing with looking at a similar faced celebrity for hair ideas as it seems they change hair styles dramatically all the time. However, I might be delusional about who my celebrity match-up is !!

Dani Shugart: This is really helpful. I have short hair because of androgenic alopecia. If it grows any longer, I look like Gollum. But this gave me the right words to tell my hair dresser for the type of bob I get.

NikkiL: Some of us with baby fine straight hair don’t have a lot of choices. Every hairdresser I’ve ever gone to wants to do the same short bob. They all say that it’s the only haircut that will work for my hair. Must be the only one they teach in school.

Shannon in Alaska: During COVID lockdown, I didn't get my hair cut for 2 years. I always put my hair in a ponytail because my face just looks better but now that my hair is past my waist, I am so scared to cut it. I just took 3-4" off the end because it was looking bad on the end and it is still past my waist, all the way down to my lowest part of my back. I love long hair but mine takes forever to grow out so I am keeping it.

Theresa MK: I always cut it right to the shortest length I can get it without it being too short to be put up, because sometimes I can’t stand how it feels touching my face and my neck. A hairstylist cut layers in it even though I asked her not to once and it was so hard to put up. Only right French braids worked to get it all up, and it really bothered me

Caroline Trezise: Thank you. I now know why I hated my last 3 cuts and have been hating the thought of getting another cut. I don't style, as cannot lift arms without great pain and have fine thin hair.

Carol C: Thank you for making this video, super informative regarding hair style to fit face shape, body shap, life style and ones own hair texture. Now we know what we need to consider before we go cut short our hair during the hot summer months. I have rounder face and chunkier body shape with thick wavy hair texture and my mom always like to cut my hair one inch below my ears, no wonder I never like that hair style. Bless you for letting all of us ladies know all these tips, super useful

Crystal Henderson: This is so great and helpful! Thank you

Natalia D.: Every woman needs to watch this video!!

Rachel Dee: I can see why you and Justin Hickox have collabed. The way you both clearly break down these factors helps so much in choosing a haircut.

Ruma Costello: Excellent advice! I follow another influencer for mature women who is tall and beautiful and has an adorable pixie cut. Everyone commenting will probably run out and get that cut, but I doubt many of them will do the analysis you outline. Thank you for this great video.
