Hey everyone welcome to hair prep. I always get this question on. How do i prep the hair? Here'S a video on how i prep i like to prep, really quick. This is for an updo for hair going all up. So what we're going to do? Is we washed her hair twice the night before with shampoo very very well, you want to get a good good, lather and then condition once we then blow dried, her hair softly just to get the moisture out the next morning. The client or model comes in to me and i take her hair and i spray it with a lightweight setting spray or a lightweight hairspray. You can also add some dry shampoo in to add a little bit more texture. I'M then going to take a one inch spring curling iron and i heat the hair up first by running the curling iron lightly over the hair, and then i do a quick curl when you preheat the hair, like that before you add the curl, it holds a Little bit better, then we're going to add curls all throughout the hair quickly. I take large sections and i work from sides to back or you can work from the back to front what this does is. It creates a really really good bend in the hair and also eliminates frizz, and it pampers your client. So it is beneficial to prep the hair, but you don't want to over prep it because if you add too many curls, you end up not needing all those curls. So work with your clients see exactly what she needs and what you're doing with the updo to determine how many curls you should add, but i like to use my one inch spring curling iron. You can also use a marcel curling iron, a flat iron, a wand. There are many options i prefer to use a spring, but any of them will work as long as you are smoothing out that frizz adding bend into the hair and getting that hair ready for the updo. Now we're going to switch to the other side and act. Add quick curls just like the other side and i'm always bending the hair away from the face because, as you put the hair up, it swoops off better that way. If your updo is going forward or if the hair is staying down, you can curl the opposite direction. If the hair is staying down, i do tend to create more curls, or i sometimes will set them with a pin against the head for even stronger curl. So it is important to have a consultation with your client whether the hair is staying down or going all up. But this is my favorite way to prep the hair for going all up. It'S quick and it's efficient and it works very well remember not to over prep the hair, because when you over prep and spend 20 to 30 minutes on curling, the hair you've then cut into a lot of time in assembling the updo. When really that much prep is not needed now that we are done with the curling iron, i take my flat iron and, as you can see, this model has a lot of kind of frizz and little curls right at her base around the perimeter. I take my flat iron and i flat iron, those out if your client has very curly, hair or very frizzy hair when you prep her hair the night before when it's washed and quickly blow-dried or if you do it the day of you may need to flat Iron, the roots, if the updo calls for straighter smoother hair. If the client wants to use her natural curly texture, you may not have to blow dry it. Let it dry, naturally with some cream that way. The natural curls have a very nice finish and you can use a tiny curling iron to finish off more of them. So once again, prep really depends on the client's hair texture and their desired goal for their updo. If they want something that requires a blowout beforehand. Make sure you it's very clear in the consultation, so, as you can see, i'm just flat ironing out these areas around her perimeter without going all the way down the hair shaft just flat iron, the root area, if you flat iron, all the way down, it'll flatten Out the curls and the ends making it harder to pin up okay, now that the hair line has been flat ironed and the hair is curled, i gently run my fingers through it and then i like to add: root boost powder to the roots or a dry. Shampoo, so i first start with those light setting sprays, curl, the hair flat iron. What needs add, root boost powder and dry shampoo and then you're going to be ready to assemble the hair easily and quickly, thanks for watching my video on how to prep the hair, if you have any questions on products, hair, textures, any steps of hair prep, please Send me a message or comment below and i'll see you guys on the next video

Maham Saleem: YES! The one I've been waiting for <3 I'd love to see how the process differs for people with thicker and silkier hair. There's a lot of weight and not enough texture so nothing holds well.

SarahDB89: Love this video. So helpful! Do you ever have clients with long hair that even though you'd prefer to start with dry hair they would rather have a shampoo and blowout before? xo Sarah
