4 Signs Your Hair Regimen is Working

Curly Natural HairEmbarking on a natural hair journey can be difficult, especially if you’ve never learned how to care for your hair before. There are so many different sources of information out there that we have to sort through and see what works best.

The next important thing after creating your hair regimen is deciding if it’s actually giving you results. Here are 4 signs that your hair regimen is working:

1. You Know What Matters

Although certain people can have similar hair textures, everyone’s hair is different. By knowing what matters, you know which ingredients work best for your hair, how often to moisturize, when to do a protein treatment, and all of the other necessary things that make up a hair regimen.

You don’t just take away word for word information from blogs, since there are so many of them and they all have different pieces of advice.

2. You Know How to Handle Breakage

If you’ve truly mastered your hair regimen, then you know what steps to take to prevent unnecessary breakage. Many ladies complain about not seeing growth, which isn’t the problem.

Our hair grows constantly, but seeing retention of the growth can be hard. You should be able to see progress in hair growth over a period of time to know that you’re retaining length. This means that you aren’t losing hair to consistent pulling, tugging, or lack of moisture.

Natural Hair3. You Know How to Work With What You Have

No, this does not mean that you should be a product junkie. Working with what you have means that if you decide to try a new product and your hair doesn’t like it, you know what ingredients to add to make it work for you correctly.

It means that if you’re traveling and can’t find your staple conditioner, you know what would make a good replacement.

It’s good to know how to work with the products you do have, because you wind up not having to just toss stuff in the trash if it isn’t your fave.

4. You Can Skip a Day without Worrying About Damage

You know that your regimen is great if you don’t have to stress yourself over missing a step every so often. Sometimes things can happen in life, and our hair won’t be the first priority (like when I’m extremely tired from class and hop in bed without wrapping or retwisting my hair).

If you can go a day or two without doing the normal things in your regimen like sealing with an oil and don’t notice any adverse affects, you’ve mastered your regimen!

It can be time consuming (and sometimes expensive) to create a workable hair regimen, but it makes no sense to continue a regimen that isn’t good for you and YOUR hair.

Once you’ve found a regimen that seems good for your hair and you can say you feel comfortable with the signs above, you’ve done a great job.

If you said no to anything above, it’s still okay! Just continue to find what works for you through trial and error, and stick with what you like.

How do you know your hair regimen works for you?
