So this is video number two on the wig making series and we're going to talk about wig caps. Now, if you haven't seen the first video on this series about the closures, make sure you do that, I will put a link in the description box. I will also have other video references by other youtubers for further clarity with this video. So let's get started alright, so the first one is this old-school stocking cap stocking caps are best to wear underneath wigs. However, you can create what is called a quick weave wig. This can be done on your head or on a wig head with hair glue now to protect your hair or the wig head, use a plastic bag underneath because the cap is thin and the glue has a tendency to seep through. So take note of that before you get started, these are available in three colors, as you can see black nude and brown and can be found at most Beauty Supply stores. However, I do have links where you can find those in the description box. Okay, so both of these caps, the dome and the elastic caps are usually hard to find because they are so popular to use for wig, making it's fairly easy to find the elastic cap, but the dome not so easy. The difference between the two is that the dome cap is smaller, it forms more to the head and it has an elastic band around it. Now, the elastic cap is a little bit bigger in the crown, and it has no elastic band at all. These caps are best with hot glue gun and needle and thread when you want to do it so in our sewing method for your weaves, because they are thicker material, you won't need a plastic cap and it's better to use a wig head, not your own head For either method again, you can find at beauty supply stores, but I've also provided links of where you can find these below as well. Now we even caps are perfect for weed making. You can use all three methods: the hair, glue, hot glue gun or of the needle and thread too. So it's better to use a wig head and you want to use a plastic cap when using either the hot glue gun or the hair glue to protect the wig head. This is so cool because it mimics the inside of manufactured weeks. So that's why I so great for wig making now even caps can come in sizes. This one that I have one is an extra large and it helps to accommodate my head size. Along with how much hair is underneath my wigs, you can find them in Beauty Supplies as well. However, I do have links below where you can find them online as well. Now this is a new cap idea that I have noticed recently here on YouTube. If you guys would like to see and upload it full video on how to remove the hair from this wig cap, so you can use it to make another wig. Please leave me a message in the description box I'll get that out as soon as possible, but I think this is a great idea. Cuz the cap usually has a perfect fit all around your hair because it was an old wig, so the best method to use. I would say: is hot glue, gun or needle and thread again using a plastic cap just in case this is to help protect your wig head cuz. I wouldn't suggest you using your own head when you're using the hot glue gun. So sorry, there's no links for this one uh to where you can find online, because you just need an old wig. You don't wear anymore and cut the hair off and there's your wig cap. Now that you have some basic insight to the differences you can use. Whatever cap and method you like, you can also use whatever type of hair you want as well. The only one i didn't see in this vid was the netted wig/weaving cap but i assume its similar to using an old cap. Seems better for sewing then gluing

BeautyCutright - Beauty . Fashion . Lifestyle: Honestly I like the elastic or dome caps. All have very long longevity except for the stocking cap because it is so thin and I rather use that for quick weave (using hair glue) which is a temporary style. =)

BeautyCutright - Beauty . Fashion . Lifestyle: Try and fold the excess cap down. You can sew it down first then hot glue your tracks....or pin it down then hot glue your tracks. Just make sure you dont hot glue over the pins that you will use to pin it down if you chose to do that =)
BeautyCutright - Beauty . Fashion . Lifestyle: Actually it is the reverse. Hair glue doesnt stick to the dome caps very well and it comes out easier after a while if you manage to be able to get it to stick. The glue gun glue does stick and takes some effort to get it off the cap. I have a tutorial on that method and provided links in the description box along with other youtubers having success with glue gun and dome caps =)
ferre77: Do you have any tips on how to stop the dome caps from shrinking when using hot glue? I made a custom wig head using your tape tutorial and used a dome cap with hot glue for a wig and it was soooo tight I couldn't get it on my head.

Ashley R: Great video. One of the problems I have when making wigs is that the caps I purchase are too big. I've tried both the weaving cap and dome cap. I'm not sure how to cut it to fit my head better and if it will be less snug if I do so. PLEASE HELP. I don't need my wig coming off. lol

Stretch dome caps are the ones that usually dont fit well after cutting (just my experience cause I have a small head) But the adjustalbl straps will not be affected =)

Shari Harvey: I just made a wig (bob) yesterday and I used the stocking/shower cap method with bonding glue. But I noticed after removing the shower cap the stocking cap seemed smaller than before. Why is that and do you have other suggestions for me when I make my next wig?

LIFEwithMartha: Hi me again what are your thoughts on glueless wig caps well looking at them I think you can use lace glue to attach if you wanted .. But have you used them? Thing is what I found is when I sewed my hair onto the weaving cap it became so loose do you have any ideas how to avoid your caps from becoming loose? I mean they are elasticised and the sewing makes it slack .. Any ideas?

BeautyCutright - Beauty . Fashion . Lifestyle: lol! Well I rarely use them to wear under wigs or to make wigs because of that reason. I use the elastic caps. They are a bit thicker in fabric to sew or hot glue tracks to.and the satin feel of the fabric underneath is less abrasive for my natural hair. If you use a stocking cap to do a quick weave with hair glue, after you start gluing the tracks while on your head, the cap will stop rolling anyway....lol.
Keisha Michelle: i have the adjustable weaving cap that i am planning on using to make my glue gun wig. i will be using my foam wig head. if i put the shower cap underneath the weaving cap, when im done do i have to cut the shower cape out? b/c i know it will stick. and which cap is best for not having that pain around your forehead with the wig caps. they hurt so much!

As for which cap is best to avoid pain around your forehead....that Im not sure because I dont have that problem at all. It maybe because the caps are too small for your head. Try the elastic caps with out the elastic band around =)

ESBEAUTII: I have used the net cap withthe adjustable straps but since I do a side part andleave my edges out on the left side if I cut the net it loses its shape and I would have to apply over 5 combs for it to feel kinda secure.I came up with a new method for ppl who do side parts.:(cont)
ESBEAUTII: I put sew 3-4 combs onto the stocking cap..basically on all four sides...then I place it on my head at an angle covering all my hair except my leave out (edges on left side) so I wont have to cut the cap. Then I proceed to do a quickweave using glue (no glue touches my hair with two caps).Once its done the cap wont roll or slide up..without the combs usually it rolls up then from sweating in my head I am able to remove the entire cap with the hair attached.The combs prevent this.

Check out the other 2 videos on the Wig Making 101 series in my wig making playlist on my channel. The playlist helps with best way to lay tracks for fit, foam head to fit your head size, etc. Plus hot glue gun method last very long if you use the high temperature glue sticks that you can find at walmart, fabric, or craft store. I found the lace at Jo Ann Fabrics to create lace closure =)

BeautyCutright - Beauty . Fashion . Lifestyle: Stocking caps are too thin for all that heavy hair.....its just like a pair of hosiery, so it will run as soon as you put the needle in and the wefts start to pull =) Stocking caps are only good for using hair glue only =)

Try matching the lace that is visible to your scalp by using make up like concealer or powder foundation or something. Cutting it will ruin the closure or the entire wig that you made =)
BeautyCutright - Beauty . Fashion . Lifestyle: Actually, my head is not that big for jumbo stocking caps...lol. Plus shrinkage comes from laying your tracks incorrectly and if you are using a wig head that is too small for your own head size. =)

BeautyCutright - Beauty . Fashion . Lifestyle: The elastic band method is the best method for wigs that are too big. How are you getting the back of the wig to stay down? Are you attaching a large wig comb or using hair pins to place under the elastic band?
