Hello and welcome back to the world of craig. Yes, i'm craig! This is my channel, obviously, where we get into all things, hair and sometimes a little bit of beauty. I hope that you guys are all well it's a beautiful spring day here. I hope that the lighting isn't um too distracting, because the sun is out shining outside still chilly, but the sun, hence the jumper and the jumper. The sweater is mine, not freddy krueger's, or dennis the menace it's a beautiful day outside, but without further ado. What are we going to be talking about today? Well now, you've already seen the title of this video and you may or may not know that i've been hair dressed. I'Ve been hairdressing now for over 30 years 33 this summer and using this product for over 20 and that product is shades eq gloss. Now i've got a bowl of processing solution here and obviously the iconic 60 ml of the liquid demi um, the first one of the first liquid demons. If not the first, that was formulated in the 80s, i think it was 1989 full of information and the formula hasn't changed since now, if you're a colorist yourself, i'm sure you've heard of this - you may have used this before or you may be thinking about using It and want some more information. Well, i thought we'd have a kind of fun but info packed video, where i share some kind of true and falses. If you like, i get lots of dms um regularly on my instagram, which is popping up here, which has also got lots of free education formulas. How to's some shady q formulas as well and i often get dms on correct usage and whenever i have a live on my instagram, where we often talk about hair color? Obviously, then, i get lots of questions and people are really passionate about this product, but i thought that we would, you know, get into some kind of do's and don'ts if you like, stop rambling craig, let's get on with the video swiftly before we get in to The chase eq bonanza, just to mention, if you enjoyed this video and find it helpful, please give it a like stop it and also make sure you're subscribed and when you do subscribe. If you choose to obviously hit that bell notification - and that means that you will see everything that's coming on my channel, the algorithm here is such that, if you don't, you might not, and then you might miss out, and that would be terrible. Okay, on with the shady cue bonanza - yes, i'm sat here clutching my little bottles of shady q gloss and it's so funny. How comforting is that the right word, but having these here in the flat with me makes me want to get back to work even more soon, quick, soon, two more weeks, so the first thing that i get a lot or i get asked a lot or we Talk about a lot as colorists is that it's about the way to do with shady cute loss, how it processes - and i often on my lives on instagram - get people that say. Oh, my goodness, i've read some of your formulas, some of your posts and you process all your shady cube glosses for 20 minutes, and i do but whether you're new to the product or you've used it for a while. I find that a lot of hair colorists tend to process it for less, because the way that this product is very cleverly formulated is it contains a mixture of demi-permanent color. It'S a demi-permanent, color and direct dye. Now it's often the direct dye. It is the direct dye that develops first, so you see it in the bowl when you mix the product up, and you see it when you start to apply it to the hair and it can look darker than you think it's going to be so often people Can apply shady cue gloss, not panic, but get a little bit unnerved, if you like by it, looking darker as they're, applying it and process it for less than 20 minutes. Now, i'm not saying that processing it for less than 20 minutes is wrong. It'S up to you. You process it for up to 20 minutes, but if you want maximum deposit - and you want to cancel or neutralize something, it is recommended that you process something for 20 minutes now, if you've been to my instagram before or you've watched any other videos on here. I am a stickler for following manufacturer's guidelines and the guidelines on chazy q glass. Is that if you do like i've already said, if you want that maximum deposit or you're trying to neutralize, let's say orange warmth, you know something on a level eight and you're, using something from shady q, like a like a v b um and an n mix. Perhaps maybe a v b, an n a and a an n mix, which is one of my favorites for neutralizing orange warmth, lots more on my instagram if you're listening, some shows your key videos here too, in fact i'll pop one of them up there. Now, if you're, if you're using it to be corrective as a lot of people, use that term in hairdressing, hair coloring, then you it's best to process it for longer. You have to trust the process and get to understand how shaky cube gloss, works. Swatch it out, or you know, try out some models if you've never used it before. I think swatching is a brilliant thing, obviously, because i'm swatching like crazy all the time - and you know, learn to trust it learn to know how it processes and hold your nerve trust the process and let it process it for longer to get the most shine. The most color deposit and the most cancelling and longevity as well, if you process you know, chassis, cube gloss for a bit longer, it's going to last the client longer in the long run, which is great because it's offering better value for money. So don't panic when you see that that color processing dark, if you formulate it on a light enough level, the product's not going to go dark and you just need to let it sit on the hair for a little bit longer. Okay, next up, it's a processing solution, slash developer kind of question: let's: let's do this one as a true or false. Now i hear this a lot. Okay, true or false shades. Eq gloss can be mixed with 10 volume peroxide. Well, actually, that's false! It'S not true, and again it comes down to manufacturer's instructions. It really is important that you use the correct developer the processing solution. Now i have never mixed shazika gloss with 10 volume, peroxide or anything else, other than processing solution, an interesting side note. There are two different sorts of processing solution now, how many times i'm going to say, processing solution, there's this the original that i use all of the time and then there's one that has a thicker kind of gel consistency, which is for precision application um, which is Really fantastic: we do carry it in the salon as well, but i generally use this one, because it's what i'm used to this for me works with a brush or an in a bowl or an applicator bottle completely your choice of preference. At the end of the day as to what you use now, if you think about it, okay, from a science point of view, the chemist who formulated chazy, cu gloss back in 1989, did such an incredible job and it's a demi-permanent color. Okay. Now the processing solution contains exactly the right ingredients and the right amount of peroxide. There is peroxide in there the right amount of peroxide. I can't remember exactly how much there is in there i'll pop it on the screen just there in order to lift the cuticle very slightly of the hair. Let the color molecules a little bit of miming. Let the color molecules go into the hair just far enough to deposit the color to leave the incredible shine, but so that the color will gradually fade over time. Obviously how much color is deposited and how quickly it fades depends on the processing time. The canvas of the hair, what color you've used all of those different things, so there's lots of different factors, but if you mix shade eq gloss with 10 volume, what i would suspect could happen is the cuticle is going to open more. The color is going to penetrate deeper, more miming, and then that means that you're you're effectively changing what shade eq gloss is, and it's going to you know it could become a slightly different color. It could process to be slightly darker. It could sit much deeper under the cuticle, so therefore it wouldn't be a demi-permanent color anymore. There would be more oxidation that goes on, which means that it wouldn't leave the hair and that could cause you problems in the long run, honest on a very basic level. I think you know when something is so tried and tested and so brilliant and gives such great results as far as what you mix it with. I would always always go with the manufacturer's guidelines, so always mix the liquid demo permanent color with the processing solution of your choice. Just briefly as well, following on from the processing solution, it's kind of um, it kind of goes with that point. If you like, i've, often hear that a lot of people like to put shady cube gloss underneath heat. Now again, if you heat something up whatever it is: um hair, color wise and you heat it up. The cuticle is going to open more and the shady q gloss is going to sit deeper into the hair. The cuticle will close. It will trap the color molecules more miming more than minimum. Today it will trap the color molecules underneath the hair and therefore the color will no longer really be a demi-permanent color. Now i've heard over the years lots and lots of people use shady cube gloss to cover grey. If you like, by adding heat to it here in the uk, there's a lot. I think it varies from country to country here in the uk. The redken don't advise you to apply heat to any um color at all, so definitely not to shady gloss but just bear in mind. If you are going to apply heat, it's not the manufacturer's guidelines and it could mean that the color will become more permanent. Now, let's have another true or false. So - and this is again, this is something you know, one of those kind of hair, color myths, um that i've heard year on year out, and that is that shady q glass should always be applied to wet hair, true or false. Well, that is actually another false. Now i say false and i'm that sounds harsh, but you know - and it's entirely up to you, how you use shazicoo glass, but it's not only designed to be applied to damp hair, wet hair. You can obviously use the product at the back wash in an applicator bottle. If that's your choice completely, that's completely fine and it's a very, very popular way for it to be used um on very, very. I would always suggest, if you're going to use it on damp hair, that it's very, very well towel dried hair. I'Ve heard before people say that it needs to go on to damp hair, wet hair, because then that makes the hair more um the porosity more even and you get a better result. That'S not true, either not strictly true um again the canvas that you're using it on and the shade that you're using and how long you process it for makes a massive difference on the on the result. But personally i always like to dilute my formula down so say. For instance, i've got someone, that's freshly, partially highlighted or balayaged and they're around a level nine. Then i would. I would always really gloss on that level. Nine or maybe even on a level ten. If i've got nothing that i want to neutralize, remember if you're neutralizing with any demi-permanent color or permanent color, really, if you're neutralizing something in the hair, then you kind of want to work on the level. But if i have that kind of you know, yellow level nine and i'm using shade gloss, i might formulate on a 10 i'll, make sure the formula is diluted enough which we're going to talk about in a second diluted enough and sheer enough that if i process It for 20 minutes on dry hair. I get max deposit, i get super really high shine results and the color lasts a lot longer. If you are applying chase sugar gloss to damp hair to wet hair, then it won't last as long um. Just how long again, it's gon na last, if you applied to damp hair, wet hair, how long is a piece of string every different head of hair and every application? Every formula is different, so it's impossible to say exactly, but it won't last as long and it isn't formulated only to be only if i can speak put my teeth in to be applied to damp or wet hair damp dry. It'S entirely up to you. How you want to use the product spring has sprung hello that doesn't smell of anything. So, if you're here at the end of the video with me, thank you very much, but if you're here at the end, thanks for watching, i think it's pretty obvious that i could go on about shakespeare gloss until the cows come home. You have to. Let me know in the comments down below, if you, if you have to let me know in the comments down below at rhymes. If you enjoyed this video and you found it helpful, because i do have lots more - that i could share on the line. But there's something i want to mention before we go um that i think, is an integral part of the line and makes you so much more creative and can really help you out in salon, and that is crystal clear now i don't know if you can see If it's going to focus, but it says here - zero, zero, zero crystal clear now: that's because this is the same as the 60 ml bottles of chassis for gloss, except it's clear. It has no color in it. If you like, there's no shade to it, it is once again crystal clear: there's 500 ml in here, half a liter. We get through a lot of it in the sun, it's something we are never out of stock of in the salon, and i will share with you guys why, how it can help you as well in salon be more creative, the first one of those is picture. This imagine it's a saturday. It'S super busy. You pull out your clients card and you're about to do a mids and ends refresh they've had their roots, tinted and they're in the backwash, and you pull out the card. Let'S have a look at their formula because we all keep record cards, don't we yes, and on the card it says that you need seven n shades, you've got 7n, but all you have in stock is 5n. Well, then, you would take your 5-inch shays eq and you would dilute it, dilute it two parts, so you have one part of the 5m two parts of the crystal clear and that will give you something that sits around around in the realm of i like to Say a 7n okay, a level 7., it's impossible to be bang on, because the canvas whatever it is, you're mixing up. All of those things play whether you're putting onto dry hair onto or to damp hair. All of those things play a part in what that level is going to sit at, but that's kind of how crystal clear works. The other great way that i use it and i and i use it a lot. Almost every time - is with global bleach outs. So if you look at my instagram after you've watched this the end of this, obviously, if you look at my instagram all of the global bleachers that use that you see on there most of i would say, 90 of them. The formulas are 50 percent crystal clear. So it might be half crystal clear and then some 9v and some 9p that's a very popular one of mine or 9v 9p and 9n. You can check all of those out on my on my grid. Obviously, there's someone here as well in other color, coloring videos, hair color videos, but that ensures that my formula is going to be light enough if you like, and it's not going to add too much depth. So the color. The final bleached result is nice and zingy and bright, and still has that kind of translucency. So, for me, crystal clear is a must in your color dispensary. So that's it for our shaziq bonanza. I hope you've enjoyed the video. If you did, please give it a like make sure you're subscribed and hit that bell, because it means that you'll see everything here coming on my channel now i have wherever you are in the world that you're all well, you know sending you lots of love and Light, you will take care and i will see you all in the next one. You

Shawna Kimberly: Thanks for sharing this info! My stylist uses Shades EQ on me, and we are experimenting with formulas to get me back to pastel silver after I foolishly let it go so I could be darker again. Bad move. Anyway, because of my thyroid meds, my hair doesn’t hold color the same anymore, and I can’t use Matrix Disco Silver anymore. Shades EQ works the best, and she gets additional toner for me to use between touch ups since my hair is so porous and loses the tone easily. I try to do everything else I can to maintain the color (skip washing for 3-4 days, co-wash when I wear it natural, protect from heat when I do use heat, etc). The beautiful color is totally worth the maintenance, though.

Sew-what: Hey Craig, I have been told that instead of clear, you could instead substitute processing solution (doubling up) to dilute the formulas. Any thoughts on this?

Sew-what: Yesss thank you ❤️ Following your brilliant tips and advice has made a massive difference for me!

Kayleigh Blalock: 2 questions... one, where do you find these products to purchase them? Two, can you use this product if you have hot roots? If so, what is your best recommendation in terms if application to make sure your roots match your already colored ends? For reference, my hair is a silvery blonde and my roots are very warm. Thank you so much!!!!!

mtnpfi: Craig, I'd love to use EQ Shades on dry hair but always think I have to get rid of slight build up through smoothing/styling products first - so would you advise to wash and dry the hair first, if you used any kind of leave-in products before? Thank you

tricia Seddon: Wow!!! You've made my mind up, was just gathering my information on shades EQ, deciding on whether to buy it for our salon, great information Craig Off to place my order and will be back to you channel, thanks

King Obi: Very helpful and straight to the point the break down of each product use and when to use it helped clear up any other questions Thank you

Saima Haq: Thank you for such useful pointers! I’ve got the onyx shade. Do you think this will give a nice glossy black on its own, or should I also use a perm black dye in between glossing with Shades EQ. My natural hair colour is a soft black but I prefer the jet black glossy look.

Danielle Miraglia: Hello Craig, I'm looking to just add shine to my dull hair. I recently went from level 9/10 back down to about a level 5. I loved trying out being a blonde and then I experimented with some beautiful vivid shades, however, my hair broke in a few places so I decided to just cut it short and bring the color back down to a shade closer to my natural ( 3/4) Can I use the Shades EQ gloss processing solution ALONE to add shine? or do I need to mix it with the Crystal Clear?

Pigeon_Nest: Thank you for this video! I'm a new stylist out of school, trying to learn Redken. This was very informative & helpful

K Callahan: Thank you for the great information! Just started using shades and this will be very helpful!

Minna Uyeda: I’d like to know what are some of your favorite summer to fall brunette glosses? I have bright highlights, I wanted something soft and ashy. I tried 7p, 7 wg and 7n. But it’s still very bright, and yellow. Do you suggest going to 6? And stick with 7p or a v?

Lia: really loved the video! can you share a few formulations for blonde hair (neutral, sandy , butter etc) please?

Caroline: Hi I’m hoping you can help me! I have shade 4 hair with about 10% scattering of greys. I was getting it dyed a chestnut brown with the ends slightly lighter due to a previous balayage but over lockdown I made the stupid decision of using henna on my hair . I’m now trying to grow out my hair and embrace my grey. I’d like to tone down the orange in my hair to a neutral colour so the greys coming through don’t look horrible with the brown and orange. Could I use a redken eq shade in a NA to get a more ashy colour? I don’t want to shave my shoulder length hair off ! Please help?!

Allyson Reeves-land: Hi Craig! Have you tried the new 10NA with bonder inside? What do you think, if so? Also, what do you think about mixing 6nb with 6t to tone/neutralize some of the brassy orange tones in darker parts of the hair?

z .S: Hi there, i'm a brunette and my stylist did an ash blonde balayage when i asked for ash brown haha! The toner she used faded out after 2-3 washes so I went to another stylist who put a permenant chocolate brown toner on top in jan, but its now mostly washed outt? I was going to use redken shades eq shade 5n all over my hair but i did a test strand and its quite dark...would this fade out lighter too as im hoping it will? Would appreciate the help :)

Nicqui Madden: Great video - thank you! I have a really weird question - when I mix my Shades EQ / Dev in the bowl the consistency / colour starts out like a browny gel; but part way through applying parts of the gel turn like a creamy colour and I have to keep mixing it to get rid of it. Is that normal? Also - before the toner, I rinse the shampoo out so so so well, but when I apply the toner, it feels almost like a shampoo feeling going on my hair. I hope this makes sense! PLEASE H E L P !!!

Katherine Margeson: Thank you! This was helpful. Do you have any tips for subtly covering white hair?

NativeNYerChicHK: I process my shades eq under very low heat for 10 minutes and let it cool down for 10 minutes after I dye my roots. My Gray is basically white now and it’s now mostly picking up reds in brown dyes. But using shades eq diluted with crystal clear & dedicated processing solution to tone that orange out. I get the exact shade & tone of brown I’m after every time!! And I think it’s the heat that makes this stay forever in my hair. I don’t have to tone it again until I’m doing my roots again. Love this stuff! It’s like magic!

Sustaining Christy: Hi Craig, enjoyed your video. I have light golden blonde hair. My hair tends to pull yellow and orange. However I do not want my hair to be ashy color if all possible with my tones. I’d like to do it buttery blonde or pearl blonde. Would either work on my hair? I have dark roots as well. I’d like to bleach my roots and not to highlights. Would this be wise and what shades would you recommend? I was going to buy 9v, 9N, 9T and 9P. Mix and use all over. Is this good and last would I need to do a smudge root? Since my roots typically turn orange. If so what shades would I use so they aren’t dark. Sorry for all the questions. Thank you for any help.

Tarot London: OMG perfect timing just ordered this and could hardly find ANY videos on just the gloss! Thanks sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much! I saw your other Shades EQ videos a few months ago x x x

Stacie Heroux: Redken shades eq mentions using heat in the directions right on the processing solution label…under instructions. Enjoyed your video .just wanted to point that out:-)

Kelly Scott: Thank you for sharing this video. Can shades EQ gloss be used to change the color of virgin hair? Or does it have to be color treated first and then use the glass on top of that?

Joanne S.: Hello Craig!!! I really enjoyed and love your information....wooow.!!! You're also obviously very inform and welknowledg and enthusiastic about this product.... as I am. I'm so going to follow you. Really enjoy your enthusiasm ❤

ricky jenkins: Tell me Craig would you still leave the toner on for the full 20 mins if you know that your client has very porous hair that can tend to grab. I have this problem sometimes and Have taken it off too soon and had to do it again. Love ❤️ your videos. Thank you

ShayeLynn Sparks: any idea why a 5n gloss would look like a 3 on my virgin brunette level 5/6 hair? thankfully it’s just a shadow root but i’m wonderining it will fade so i don’t have to strip my hair?

Lavinia Rramani: Hi! Thanks for all the information! A small question please, could you use the toners...with a 3% developeur( from a different brand) ? You think is gonna work? Or is absolutely necessary to use his processing solution?

Nazgul keskin: Hello Craig! I have virgin long thick black hair and i am looking for a product to get really really shiny hair. Do you think i could use the redken eq crystal clear gloss to achieve the shine? And do i need the processing solution as wel?

Ileenmi: Hi! ❤️ will shades eq gloss cover or help blend out grays?

K Smith: I just commented 5 minutes ago on the first video I watched of yours and this video answered my question I asked. I'm glad because I was afraid I wouldn't get an answer. This video is amazing!! You are so full of great energy and so informative. Thank you!

lori a pierce: I am new to using the Redken Shades EQ and the other night, I used one and I am just loving these shades. No odor or burning, and they leave your hair so shiny and soft. Highly recommend them!

Faith over Fear: Thankyou! Do you think 010N mixed with 10VG would look nice on really light blonde?

Leah Andrews: What colour shade would you suggest for a dark brunette, who wants to give hair a little warmth?

Gia Pascha: I had a colorist that used blue kicker and some type of black possibly onyx and processing to create a blue black. Meaning my hair would look very black in normal lighting, but blue in the sunlight. He passed away. My new hair dresser does not know how to do it... can you tell me what he did so I can explain it to her. I tried to explain it to her but the effect wasn't the same... maybe he used a different ratio. She poured all the blue and onyx and processing together. I am not sure if he used entire bottles of it like she did... It just looked very black, but no blue effect in sunlight... I made her get the redken, but she normally uses other semi-permanent products that I'd never heard of... Can you help me go back to having great color with destroying my virgin hair because I have never used permanent hair dye and I don't want to...

MeeshRosenberg: Good morning! I have a q about the kicker shades.. So I'm currently using moroccan sand 06N, was thinking of adding in a touch of the blue kicker for extra ashiness as I tend to pull a lot of orange undertones? Love the shades eq range! X

mtnpfi: Thank you so much! And: I'd love more

Se Souvenir: can you use the clear gloss without any processing solution?

deevah: Hi when using the clear processing.. do you need to use the regular processor when doing a gloss toner ?

CC: Hi Craig which EQ should I use for black hair I always retouch my sis hair with 1n so which shade do you recommend to give her gloss?

Kristinheatherstar One: I have been going to aveda salons forever but now that im a woman, ahem, of a certain age, i feel like maybe i should look for a redken salon. i never felt the need for color before, but for the past 2 years my grey is noticeable enough to make me look a bit haggard up close. However, most all the women in my age well without procedures or surgeries and into silver gray hair, this is just such an awkward stage tho! It’s like a second puberty in reverse! It is a bizarre experience. Anyway, so I want something that can gently cover my greys while mu hair changes and then grows out… A specific concern i guess

Anne Spencer: Glad I found you darling! XoXo from Las Vegas! ✂️

Alexis Lindsay: Does anyone have any tips on shampooing this out? I love SEQG colors but I find that it sticks to the scalp and little baby hairs so much more than other toners, sometimes leaving a weird almost “film” on the hair. Does anyone else have this problem?

Angeline Biswas: So realistically if you were in a pinch and were out of processing solution you could use 7vol developer?

Ed: Hey.. A quick question if you wouldn't mind. Whats the difference between eq colours 4nn and just 4n ?.... Thank you.

Judy Dyer: love Redkin Shades...just did a treatment w/ clear/cinnamon....I'm in Mexico and can buy it online....I love it but my scalp really needs an oil treatment. will an olive oil treatment strip some of my new lovely locks of color and/or gloss?

Jonny Lugo: Is it true every minute you let shades EQ process it’s one wash?

Sana Fatima: hi can we use Redken Chromatics Oil In Cream Developer with EQ toner?

Morgan Hunter: Can just toned my extensions and have a bit of extra toner I’d like to throw in my hair. Does it stop working after a certain time?

Dmm ice: Hi can only one shade be used on all the hair?

faiza faiza: Please can this product be applied to henna colored hair. Merci

Rena Frazier: My hair is a Purple with Grey/Gray I just want the glossy Shine.

Maxo: Hallo Craig.I just found your video...I am wondering... what would happen with my hair if I use this without any demi colour.Just like that without mixing notning.

Ronnie Z: Thank you!

Aribella: Thanks Craig.

Ed: Hey Craig. Level 4 with a lot of red/orange showing through any suggestions on eq toner to knock some of the red/orange out ? Thank you.

Dmm ice: What do you think about 9na? It looks kinda dark

J M Herrera: Enjoyble!!

K B: Can I buy this online?

Sheba Makeup: Hi! Do you have a Salon? I need to colour correct and tone. I would say I am a level 8/9 witn some strands of brass.

Audra Wajda: I want to listen to you talk about SEQ until the cows come home.

karen tonks: I thought manufacturing instructions suggest using shades eq on dry hair only?

Rocking Your 60's: How use crystal clear only

M R: Subscribed

Deborah Cameron: ? is this still coloring your hair?

Kristinheatherstar One: Mmmkay. I understand.
